Intel will power Googlebook as Google prepares a new AI focused laptop platform

Google has announced a new laptop lineup called Googlebook, and Intel has confirmed that its chips will power the new devices.

Googlebook was revealed during Google I/O as a premium laptop platform built around Gemini and a new software experience that combines parts of Android, Google Play, and ChromeOS. Google has not shared full hardware details yet, but the company is positioning Googlebook as a more capable AI first laptop rather than a normal low cost Chromebook.

Intel later confirmed its role in the project, saying it is partnering with Google on “premium, powerful devices designed for intelligence.” That strongly suggests Intel silicon will be central to the first Googlebook laptops.

The software side is the bigger shift. Googlebook will support Android apps directly and will not rely on a separate emulated Android experience. Gemini will also be deeply integrated into the system.

One new feature is called Magic Pointer. Users can shake the pointer to activate Gemini mode, giving them quick access to AI features. Google also says users will be able to create their own widgets through Gemini.

Google has named five OEM partners for Googlebook:

The chip inside Googlebook has not been confirmed yet. One possibility is Intel’s Core Series 3 “Wildcat Lake,” which is expected to target mainstream laptops. Another possibility is custom Intel silicon optimized for Google’s new laptop platform.

The timing is important because Apple’s MacBook Neo has reportedly created pressure in the mainstream laptop market. Intel and Google appear to be building Googlebook as a stronger x86 based response, with AI features, Android app support, and a more premium design goal.

Googlebook is not replacing Chromebooks for now. Chromebooks will continue to be sold, while Googlebook seems aimed at a higher performance category with a different identity.

Expected launchFall 2026

Googlebook could become one of the more interesting laptop launches of 2026 if Google gets the balance right. ChromeOS has long been strong for simplicity and web based work, while Android has a huge app ecosystem. Combining both with Gemini could give Google a stronger answer to Windows laptops and Apple’s MacBook lineup.

For Intel, this is also a useful win. The company gets another major platform partner at a time when x86 laptop makers are trying to respond to Apple’s growing influence in efficient mainstream notebooks.

The big unknowns are still performance, battery life, price, and whether the new software experience feels polished. Google has tried several laptop ideas before, but Googlebook sounds like a more serious attempt to build an AI centered laptop category.

More details are expected closer to the fall 2026 launch. For now, the main takeaway is clear: Googlebook is coming, Intel is powering it, and Google wants it to be more than just another Chromebook.
