Intel is returning to top level racing through a new multi year partnership with McLaren Racing. The company has been named the official compute partner for the McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team, Arrow McLaren IndyCar Team, and McLaren F1 Sim Racing Team.
The deal brings Intel’s processors and computing platforms into McLaren’s race operations, where fast data processing can directly affect performance. Formula 1 and IndyCar teams rely heavily on simulations, telemetry, aerodynamic modeling, and real time strategy tools. Intel’s role will be to support those workloads with high performance computing hardware and AI focused systems.
McLaren will use Intel Xeon and Intel Core Ultra processors across several key areas. These include computational fluid dynamics, aerodynamic analysis, vehicle dynamics simulation, race strategy analytics, and real time decision systems that connect McLaren’s UK technology center with race garages around the world.
| Area | How Intel will support McLaren |
|---|---|
| Race strategy | Faster real time data analysis during race weekends |
| Aerodynamics | Support for computational fluid dynamics and design testing |
| Vehicle simulation | More compute power for digital models and performance studies |
| AI workloads | Faster predictive modeling and design cycles |
| Trackside operations | Edge computing for low latency race day decisions |
| Branding | Intel logo on McLaren cars and racing platforms |
The partnership also shows how important computing has become in modern racing. Teams no longer depend only on mechanical performance and driver skill. They also need fast, secure, and scalable computing systems to turn huge amounts of data into useful decisions.

Intel says its technology will help McLaren with trackside edge computing, advanced simulation, digital twins, and AI platforms. These systems can help teams test ideas faster, improve efficiency, and make better decisions under race pressure.
Intel branding will appear on McLaren Formula 1 cars starting with the Montreal race. It will also appear on Arrow McLaren IndyCar cars at the Freedom 250 in Washington, D.C., and at the Indy 500 in 2027. Next season, Intel branding will also be shown on the McLaren F1 Sim Racing Team car and simulator setup.
The move also adds another chip company rivalry to motorsport. Intel is now powering McLaren’s compute platform, while AMD is already linked with Mercedes in Formula 1. That makes racing another stage where major hardware companies are using high performance competition to show what their technology can do.
