To permanently remove your Instagram account and its content, follow the steps below for your device. If you only want a break, choose Deactivate account instead of Delete during step 4.
iPhone & iPad
- Open Instagram and go to your profile.
- Tap Menu → Settings and privacy → Accounts Center.
- Personal details → Account ownership and control → Deactivation or deletion.
- Select the account → Delete account → Continue → enter your password → Delete account.
Android
- Open Instagram and go to your profile.
- Tap Menu → Settings and privacy → Accounts Center.
- Personal details → Account ownership and control → Deactivation or deletion.
- Choose the account → Delete account → Continue → enter your password → Delete account.
Web (instagram.com)
- Log in and click More → Settings → Accounts Center.
- Go to Personal details → Account ownership and control.
- Choose Deactivation or deletion.
- Pick the account → Delete account → Continue → enter your password → Delete account.
To keep your photos and messages, download your data first:
Settings and privacy → Your information and permissions → Download your information.
Deleted accounts are hidden immediately and permanently removed after a short grace period unless you log back in and cancel deletion.
