Hollow Knight: Silksong is getting a physical release on Xbox Series X, and that is worth noting at a time when many physical game editions skip Microsoft’s platform. Fangamer has opened preorders for physical copies on Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2, with the release expected on October 16, 2026.
Silksong was one of last year’s biggest indie success stories. Team Cherry’s long awaited sequel reportedly sold more than 7 million copies after launch and reached players across Xbox, Xbox Game Pass, PC, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch 2. The game built on the original Hollow Knight’s Metroidvania formula, with exploration, difficult bosses, secrets, and a new protagonist in Hornet.
The physical edition is important because Xbox physical releases have become less common. Many publishers still release boxed versions for PlayStation and Nintendo platforms, but Xbox is often left out or treated as a lower priority. That has frustrated collectors who still prefer discs, cases, manuals, and shelf copies for games they care about.
The Xbox version being included makes this release more meaningful for collectors
The physical edition of Hollow Knight: Silksong will include more than just the game case. Fangamer is also adding a 32 page instruction manual and a poster, giving the package the kind of extra value that physical collectors usually appreciate.

| Xbox importance | Physical Xbox releases are increasingly rare |
The Sea of Sorrow DLC will not be included on the disc. Instead, it will be provided as a free download. That detail may disappoint players who want everything preserved physically, but it also hints that the DLC could arrive around the same October window.
For many players, physical games are no longer essential. Digital libraries and subscription services such as Xbox Game Pass have made it easier to play without discs. But physical editions still matter for preservation, ownership, collecting, gifting, and long term access. A boxed copy with a manual and poster also feels more special than a standard digital purchase.

Silksong is the kind of game that fits a physical release well. It has a dedicated fan base, strong critical reception, and the kind of long term appeal that collectors usually care about. Including Xbox in the physical release gives Microsoft’s players the same option as PlayStation and Nintendo fans, which has not always been guaranteed in recent years.
For Xbox owners who loved Silksong on Game Pass or bought it digitally at launch, this physical edition offers a more permanent collector’s version. It is a small but welcome win for physical media fans, and a rare case where Xbox is not being left behind.
