Helldivers 2 is still active and far from dead, but its community is clearly frustrated with the current state of the game.
Recent Steam reviews for the co op shooter have dropped to Mostly Negative, with only 38 percent of more than 10,000 recent reviews marked positive at the time of the report. The drop reflects growing anger over bugs, balance changes, progression issues, and the way Arrowhead has handled recent updates.
Players have pointed to several problems. Some bugs have persisted for too long, including issues with stratagem beacons. Balance changes have also confused parts of the community, with weapons and tools often feeling stronger one patch and weaker the next. Many players also want deeper endgame progression and better ways to earn Super Credits at higher difficulties.
One recent update became a major flashpoint. Arrowhead improved Exosuit health to make mechs more durable, but also increased the durability damage dealt by Terminid bugs. That made bug attacks better at piercing armor, reducing the benefit of the Exosuit buff while also making vehicles, turrets, and other stratagems feel weaker.

The backlash grew after Arrowhead chief creative officer Johan Pilestedt hosted a Reddit AMA. Some players felt his responses showed that the studio was not fully aware of how frustrated the community had become.
Here is what players are upset about:
| Issue | Why players are frustrated |
|---|---|
| Bugs | Some problems keep returning or remain unfixed |
| Balance changes | Buffs often arrive with nerfs that weaken the overall impact |
| Exosuit update | Mechs were buffed, but enemy damage changes reduced the benefit |
| Endgame progression | Players want more meaningful long term goals |
| Super Credits | Higher difficulties do not feel rewarding enough for earning them |
| Communication | Some players feel Arrowhead is out of touch with feedback |
Arrowhead has now responded to the criticism. The studio says it is listening and plans to be clearer about what it is working on. It has promised new Galactic War rewards, deeper campaigns this summer, technical fixes, clearer patch notes with no hidden changes, public beta testing for updates, and progression systems beyond Level 150.
Those plans sound useful, but the studio has not shared many specific details yet. That means players may need to see real changes before trust improves.
Helldivers 2 still has a strong core. Its co op combat, chaotic missions, and community driven war map are still the reasons many players keep returning. The problem is that repeated balance frustration, bugs, and unclear communication can wear down even a loyal audience.
Arrowhead has recovered from rough patches before. The next few months will show whether it can do that again by fixing the basics, explaining changes better, and giving veteran players more reasons to keep fighting.
