Genshin Impact may finally come to Nintendo Switch 2 after years of waiting

Genshin Impact may be heading to Nintendo Switch 2, years after the game was first teased for Nintendo’s previous console. The latest sign comes from datamined information, which reportedly shows that a Nintendo Switch account Login Manager was added internally in Genshin Impact version 6.5.50. That does not confirm a release by itself, but it suggests that work may be happening behind the scenes for a Nintendo version of the game.

The timing makes sense because Genshin Impact was originally announced for Nintendo Switch shortly after launching on PC, PlayStation 4, and mobile in 2020. That version never arrived, likely because the original Switch hardware was not strong enough to handle the game well over the long term. The system’s limited memory was one of the likely issues, especially as Genshin Impact kept growing with new regions, characters, systems, and larger content updates.

Switch 2 gives miHoYo a much better chance to deliver the port Nintendo players expected years ago

The Nintendo Switch 2 is a more realistic target for Genshin Impact. The newer hardware should have enough power to run a game that was originally designed to scale across mobile devices, PCs, and consoles. The report also notes that the current generation Nintendo system is capable of running many demanding multiplatform games, which makes a Genshin Impact port easier to imagine than it was on the original Switch.

A Switch 2 version could also be important for Nintendo’s software lineup. Genshin Impact remains one of the biggest free to play games in the world, with regular updates and a large audience. Bringing it to Switch 2 would give Nintendo players access to a long running live service RPG that has already built a large fanbase across other platforms.

The information should still be treated carefully. Datamining can reveal internal work, but it does not always lead to a public release. Plans can change, features can be tested without launching, and platform support can appear in files before a company is ready to announce anything. For now, neither Nintendo nor miHoYo has officially confirmed Genshin Impact for Switch 2.

Still, the possibility feels stronger now than it did during the original Switch era. Switch 2 gives miHoYo better hardware to work with, and the upcoming showcase season could give Nintendo a good place to announce a major free to play release. If the port is real, it would close a long running gap that started more than five years ago.

miHoYo is also continuing to support its other games, including Zenless Zone Zero, while working on Varsapura, a new open world game powered by Unreal Engine 5. That shows the company is still expanding beyond Genshin Impact, but a Switch 2 version of its biggest hit would still be a major move.

For now, Genshin Impact on Switch 2 remains a rumor based on datamined information. But after years of waiting, this is one of the clearest signs yet that the game may finally reach a Nintendo console.
