Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 is expected to give Vincent and Cid a much bigger role in combat, based on new comments from director Naoki Hamaguchi.
Hamaguchi said the team has designed every character with a clear identity rather than building the game around one standout party member. Still, when speaking about the final game, he hinted that Vincent and Cid have been given especially appealing combat abilities.
That is important because both characters were introduced in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but they were not fully playable party members. Part 3 should finally complete the main playable lineup, giving the last two members their full combat systems.
Vincent may be the more interesting challenge for the remake team. In the original Final Fantasy VII, he used guns and had Limit Break transformations that changed his form and abilities. Rebirth already gave a small look at that side of him, but Part 3 will need to adapt it into the trilogy’s faster action based combat.
Cid may fit the current battle system more naturally. His dragoon style makes him well suited for aerial attacks, spear based combos, and movement focused combat. If the team leans into that identity, he could become one of the most active melee fighters in the final game.
Hamaguchi also touched on two major pieces of Final Fantasy VII history: Knights of the Round and Sephiroth’s Supernova. He did not explain exactly how either one will appear, but his comments strongly suggest that the team is thinking carefully about how to bring them into a modern combat system.

Both moments are iconic, but they also come from a very different era of RPG design. Knights of the Round was famous for its long, powerful summon sequence, while Supernova was known for its huge visual scale. In a modern action RPG, those moments may need to be adjusted so they remain impressive without slowing the game too much.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 is also expected to expand the world with the Highwind airship, which could make it feel much broader than Remake and Rebirth. If the full party, major summons, and late game story moments all come together well, the final entry could be the most ambitious part of the trilogy.
Hamaguchi also discussed the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. He said DLSS is important for balancing large environments and stable performance on the system, especially in handheld mode. At the same time, fine details such as Cloud’s hair can create challenges when reconstruction techniques are used, so the team has adjusted rendering to keep visual artifacts from becoming too distracting.
The main focus, though, remains Part 3. With Vincent and Cid finally becoming playable, Knights of the Round and Supernova likely returning in some form, and the Highwind opening up the world, the final chapter has a lot to deliver.
