Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S on June 3, but players do not have to wait until launch day to try it. Square Enix has released a free demo for both platforms, giving new players a large early look at the second part of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy.
The demo is larger than the original PlayStation 5 demo. Instead of only covering the Nibelheim flashback from Chapter 1, the Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S demo lets players continue through Chapter 2, “A New Journey Begins.” Nintendo’s official page says players can experience the beginning of the game through the end of Chapter 2 and can carry demo progress into the full version.
The new demo gives Switch 2 and Xbox players a real look at Rebirth’s open-world structure before launch
The added Chapter 2 content matters because it gives players their first taste of the wider world beyond Midgar. Chapter 1 is more story-focused and built around the Nibelheim flashback, while Chapter 2 opens up the game and lets players explore more freely. That makes this demo a better test of how Final Fantasy VII Rebirth feels on new platforms.
Nintendo’s official page says that if players choose not to proceed to the Mythril Mine, they can return to previous areas and continue exploring. The page also notes that demo save data gives players access to the Kupo Charm and a survival set in the full game.

The Xbox Store listing confirms that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is optimized for Xbox Series X|S and supports Xbox Play Anywhere. That means buyers can play on Xbox Series X|S and PC with supported cross-save and ownership features. The listing also shows 4K Ultra HD, HDR10, variable refresh rate, 60fps+, Xbox achievements, and Xbox cloud saves among its supported features.
Early Switch 2 impressions are also encouraging, though not perfect. According to the reference article, footage and previews suggest the Switch 2 version has a lower resolution than the PlayStation 5 version, with some visible cutbacks such as weaker hair rendering, occasional shadow flicker, and performance struggles in areas with many NPCs. Still, the overall response appears positive, especially considering the hardware.
That is good news for Switch 2 owners because Rebirth is a much bigger and more open game than Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. If the demo performs well enough across both story scenes and open areas, it could reduce concerns about the quality of the port.
For Xbox players, the demo is also important because it marks another step in Square Enix’s wider move to bring the Final Fantasy VII remake project beyond PlayStation. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade arrived on Switch 2 and Xbox earlier this year, and Rebirth will follow only a few months later.
The full release is still over a month away, but this demo gives players a meaningful sample instead of a small teaser. It lets them test combat, story pacing, exploration, performance, and platform features before deciding whether to buy.

Got it. Going forward, I won’t insert external links.
