Fallout 4 players on Xbox can now try one of the game’s biggest recent mods, thanks to Bethesda’s new console mod storage update. The update massively expands how much space console players can use for mods, and that change has made it possible for the DLC sized Misery Island mod to arrive on Xbox.
Before this update, Fallout 4 console players only had 1GB of space for mods. That limit was especially painful for larger projects, because big world spaces, new quests, custom items, and voice acting can quickly use up storage. After the patch, Xbox Series X and S players now get up to 100GB of mod storage. Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4 players get 15GB.
That difference matters because Xbox is now in a much stronger position for large Fallout 4 mods. PlayStation still has stricter limits because of Sony’s restrictions around custom content, which means Misery Island is available on Xbox but not PlayStation.
Misery Island feels more like a full expansion than a normal mod
Misery Island was created by Tenhats and shreddah4 and first launched on PC last year. The mod is set on the real world Misery Islands in Massachusetts and adds a large new world space to explore. It includes two full settlements, more than 20 locations, eight interior areas, and several smaller points of interest hidden across the map.
| Feature | What Misery Island adds |
|---|---|
| New world space | Misery Islands in Massachusetts |
| Settlements | Two buildable settlements |
| Locations | More than 20 |
| Interiors | Eight |
| Story content | Lore friendly questline |
| Characters | Voice acted NPCs |
| Extras | Custom weapons, armor, clothing, food, junk items, radio, and music |
| Requirement | Fallout 4 Far Harbor DLC |
The mod also adds a full questline with voice acted characters, along with custom weapons, armor, clothing, food, crafting junk, random encounters, new weather conditions, a new radio station, and custom background music. Classic style Fallout skill checks are included too, which should appeal to players who miss more traditional role playing elements.

Because of its size and structure, Misery Island is not just a small add on. It sounds closer to a fan made expansion, offering several hours of new Fallout 4 content. Players will need the official Far Harbor DLC for it to work, which makes sense because Far Harbor is also tied to coastal New England locations and content.
The mod is also part of the Isles of New England series. Its first chapter, Boon Island, was much smaller and already fit within older console restrictions. Misery Island is far more ambitious, which is why the storage increase matters so much.
This update could become a turning point for Fallout 4 modding on Xbox. With 100GB available on Xbox Series X and S, mod authors can now bring over projects that previously would have been impossible or heavily reduced for console players. That could include larger quest mods, world expansions, overhauls, and more advanced content.
Fallout 4 is nearly a decade old, but its modding scene still gives it new life. Misery Island arriving on Xbox shows how much better the console experience can become when storage limits are less restrictive. For players who already own Fallout 4 and Far Harbor, this is one of the strongest reasons to return to the Commonwealth.
