A fresh set of images of Lenovo's upcoming Googlebook has landed with us, and they answer a question we had been chewing on all week. When ASUS's Googlebook leaked with a colourful light bar on the lid, everyone assumed it was an ASUS exclusive. It is not. Lenovo's machine has one as well.
Look at the top edge of the lid, just above the camera housing. There is a thin strip glowing in Google's four brand colours, blue through green, yellow and red. On ASUS's dark grey machine the bar sits above the logo and pops hard. On Lenovo's soft white chassis it is quieter, almost jewellery-like, catching the light rather than shouting.
A Glowbar on two different manufacturers' machines suggests this is a Google requirement for the whole category, not one company's flourish. Expect it to work like the HiLight indicator on the Pixel 11, pulsing for charging, notifications, or when Gemini is listening. It also gives Googlebooks something Chromebooks never had, which is a shared visual signature you can spot with the lid closed.
The rest of these renders line up with what we have already seen. The finish is a clean cloud white with a subtle silver Lenovo wordmark on the lid, the hinge area is neatly recessed, and the whole machine is strikingly thin in profile. On one side we can see HDMI, USB-C and a headphone jack, and on the other a USB-C and a full size USB-A, which matches the generous port layout Lenovo showed off earlier.
Google has confirmed the first Googlebooks arrive this autumn from Lenovo, ASUS, Acer, Dell and HP. Lenovo is expected to announce at IFA in Berlin in early September.
For now, the Glowbar is quietly becoming the defining detail of Google's laptop reboot.
