Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition may finally be close to launching on Nintendo Switch 2.
A Canadian retailer, PNP Games, has listed the game with an estimated ship date of July 10, 2026. That date falls on a Friday, which makes it believable, though it could still be a placeholder. Bandai Namco, FromSoftware, and Nintendo have not confirmed the date yet.
The Switch 2 version was first announced alongside the console itself. It was originally expected in 2025, but was delayed into 2026 so FromSoftware could spend more time improving performance.
That delay made sense. Early playable builds of Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition reportedly had serious frame rate problems at Gamescom 2025. Some players saw the game drop to around 20 FPS or even 15 FPS, which is a major issue for a game built around precise combat timing.
The worrying part is that those drops were not only happening in huge open world areas. Reports said performance also struggled in smaller indoor spaces with fewer characters on screen. Handheld mode was capped at 30 FPS and still dropped below that target.

The likely issue may be CPU performance rather than graphics power. Elden Ring has always been demanding on CPUs, even on PC, where the game had microstutter problems. Xbox Series S also struggles to hold 60 FPS. That makes Switch 2 optimization harder, especially because FromSoftware’s engine has long had uneven performance behavior.
The final version may be better. Recent previews have reportedly shown improved frame rates, and the delay gave FromSoftware more time to tune the port. Still, performance is the one thing that will decide whether this release works.
Here is what Tarnished Edition includes:
| Content | Details |
|---|---|
| Base game | Full Elden Ring |
| Expansion | Shadow of the Erdtree included |
| New classes | Knight/Knightess of Ides and Heavy Warrior |
| New armor | Four new armor sets |
| New gear | New weapons and Ashes of War |
| Torrent customization | Three cosmetic options |
| Bonus armor | Lucatiel of Mirrah armor from Dark Souls II |
The new Tarnished Edition content will not stay exclusive to Switch 2. FromSoftware plans to release it on PS4, PS5, Xbox, and PC through a separate Tarnished Pack. Pricing has not been confirmed, but it is expected to be a smaller paid DLC. Some cosmetic items, such as Torrent skins and the Mirrah set, may be sold separately.
A Switch 2 version of Elden Ring could be a big deal if it runs well. The idea of playing the full game and Shadow of the Erdtree in handheld mode is appealing, especially with new content included.
But this is not the kind of game where rough performance is easy to ignore. If frame rates still dip heavily during bosses or fast combat, the port could become frustrating quickly.
For now, July 10 is the date to watch. If the retailer listing is accurate, an official announcement should come soon. The bigger reveal will be whether FromSoftware has fixed enough of the performance issues to make Elden Ring feel right on Switch 2.
