Crimson Desert has received another major update, and this one delivers a feature players have been asking for since launch: full controller remapping. Patch 1.09 is now live, giving players much more control over how the game feels on a controller while also adding new pets, companion animations, character skills, and several bug fixes.
The controller update is the most important change here. Crimson Desert has always had ambitious combat and traversal systems, but that also made its controls feel crowded. Many players adjusted over time, but the default layout still felt awkward for some, especially during fast fights or exploration-heavy moments.
With full controller remapping now available, players can finally adjust inputs around their own habits instead of forcing themselves to work around the original setup. That should make Crimson Desert more comfortable for people who struggled with its complex controls, and it also makes the game feel more accessible for players who prefer custom layouts.
Patch 1.09 also makes Damiane and Oongka feel more complete
Pearl Abyss did not stop at control improvements. Patch 1.09 also adds new skills for Damiane and Oongka. These skills are equivalent to Kliff’s Blinding Flash Finisher and use the same input, Heavy Attack while using Blinding Flash.
That matters because Damiane and Oongka previously felt less complete than Kliff in some parts of combat and open world exploration. Adding these missing style skills should make them feel more useful and better balanced compared with the launch version.
| Crimson Desert patch 1.09 change | What it adds |
|---|---|
| Full controller remapping | Lets players customize controller inputs |
| New pet options | Adds 30 small animal species as pets |
| Companion animations | New pick up and put down animations |
| Damiane and Oongka skills | Adds Blinding Flash style finishers |
| PC graphics fix | Fixes distant shadow rendering with ray traced Sun and Moon shadows |
| Bug fixes | Content, controls, combat, and UI fixes |
The update also adds 30 species of small animals that can be registered as pets. This is a smaller feature compared with controller remapping, but it fits Crimson Desert’s growing focus on open world personality. Pets, mounts, and companion interactions have become part of the game’s post launch identity, especially as Pearl Abyss keeps responding to player requests.

The new animations for picking up and putting down certain companions also help make those interactions feel less mechanical. These are not massive gameplay changes, but they improve the feeling of living inside the world.
Patch 1.09 includes a notable PC graphics fix as well. Before this update, distant object shadows could fail to render correctly when the Raytraced Sun and Moon Light Shadows option was enabled. That issue has now been addressed, which should help players using higher end visual settings get a more consistent image.
Crimson Desert has been receiving updates at a steady pace since launch, and patch 1.09 continues that pattern. Pearl Abyss has already added or adjusted several features based on community feedback, including previous fixes for crashes, new rematch bosses, and even unusual mount options.
The larger story is that Crimson Desert’s post launch support is moving quickly. Controller remapping may sound like a basic feature, but for a game with this many combat, movement, and interaction systems, it can make a real difference. Players who bounced off the original controls now have a better reason to return.
Patch 1.09 is unlikely to be the final major update, but it is one of the most practical so far. Crimson Desert is becoming easier to customize, smoother to play, and more complete with each patch.
