Crimson Desert has become a major success for Pearl Abyss, and the most important part may be where the sales are coming from.
The open world action RPG launched on March 19, 2026, and sold 5 million copies in its first 26 days. That is already impressive for a new IP, but Pearl Abyss says more than 80 percent of sales came from North America and Europe.
That is a big shift for the Korean developer. Pearl Abyss is best known for Black Desert, a game that started mainly on PC and built a long running live service audience. Crimson Desert appears to have pushed the company much deeper into the global AAA market.
The sales pace was strong from the start.
| Milestone | Time after launch |
|---|---|
| 2 million copies | Day one |
| 3 million copies | 4 days |
| 4 million copies | 12 days |
| 5 million copies | 26 days |
The platform split was almost even between PC and console, which is also notable. A 50:50 split shows Crimson Desert did not depend only on Pearl Abyss’ existing PC audience. Console players helped turn it into a much broader global release.
The financial impact was huge. Pearl Abyss reported KRW 328.5 billion in Q1 2026 revenue, up 419.8 percent year over year. Operating profit reached KRW 212.1 billion, while net profit hit KRW 170.0 billion.
| Pearl Abyss Q1 2026 | Result | YoY change |
|---|---|---|
| Operating revenue | KRW 328.5 billion | Up 419.8 percent |
| Operating profit | KRW 212.1 billion | Up 2,584.8 percent |
| Net profit | KRW 170.0 billion | Up 2,107.8 percent |
Crimson Desert alone generated KRW 266.5 billion, or about $178.8 million, in its first two weeks. That only covers sales through the end of March, so the full launch performance is larger.
Black Desert also remained steady, bringing in KRW 61.6 billion, or about $41.3 million. That gives Pearl Abyss two useful pillars: one dependable live service game and one new premium hit.
Pearl Abyss now expects full year 2026 revenue between KRW 879 billion and KRW 975 billion. Crimson Desert is expected to contribute KRW 644 billion to KRW 734 billion of that total. At the high end, the game could generate more than half a billion dollars in 2026.

That would be a remarkable result for a brand new franchise.
Pearl Abyss says it is exploring DLC for Crimson Desert, but there are no firm plans yet. Given the sales numbers, more content feels likely, but the company has not committed to anything specific.
The studio is also shifting attention to DokeV, its colorful creature collecting action game. DokeV is now in pre production and has been named Pearl Abyss’ top priority. The company wants to move toward a new game release cadence of every two to three years.
Plan 8 remains much further away. Nearly seven years after it was first announced, the game is still in the concept stage.
The report also confirms that CCP Games has been sold and is independent again under the new name Fenris Creations.
Crimson Desert’s launch changes the picture for Pearl Abyss. The company is no longer only the Black Desert studio. It now has a major Western hit, strong console sales, and a new IP that could become a long term franchise.
The challenge now is keeping that momentum. Crimson Desert sold quickly despite mixed critical reception, which shows strong demand. But long term success will depend on updates, possible DLC, community support, and whether Pearl Abyss can turn this launch into a lasting global brand.
