Capcom rumor points to Devil May Cry remake and a long Resident Evil roadmap

Capcom may have a much larger horror and action lineup planned than fans expected, according to a new set of rumors tied to an anonymous insider.

The biggest claim is that a remake of the original Devil May Cry is in active development. The first Devil May Cry launched in 2001 on PlayStation 2 and helped define Capcom’s stylish action formula. A full remake would be a major return for the series, which has not had a new mainline entry since Devil May Cry 5 in 2019.

The rumor should still be treated carefully. Known Capcom leaker Dusk Golem has distanced himself from the Devil May Cry remake claim and said it did not come from him. That means this part of the report is not strongly verified yet.

Still, the idea is not impossible. Devil May Cry 5 became the best selling entry in the series, with around 11 million copies sold. That gives Capcom a clear reason to revisit the franchise, especially while Resident Evil and Monster Hunter continue to perform strongly.

The same rumor also describes Capcom’s long term Resident Evil plans. According to the claim, Capcom approved several major projects in 2022, including remakes of Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil 1, and Resident Evil: Code Veronica, along with Resident Evil 10.

Here is the rumored roadmap:

ProjectRumored details
Devil May Cry 1 RemakeClaimed to be in active development
Resident Evil: Code Veronica RemakeCould be announced soon, with a possible Q1 2027 release
Resident Evil Zero RemakeReportedly planned after Code Veronica, possibly in 2028
Resident Evil 1 RemakeSaid to be in full production, possibly targeting 2029
Resident Evil 10Rumored for around 2030, with Claire Redfield as protagonist

The rumored codenames are also interesting. Resident Evil Zero is said to be Project Chambers, Resident Evil 1 is Project Fallen, and Resident Evil 10 is Project Redlife.

Resident Evil 10 is said to feature Claire Redfield as the lead character. That would be notable because Claire has not led a mainline Resident Evil game in many years. If Capcom also releases a Code Veronica remake before then, it could help reintroduce Claire to newer players before Resident Evil 10 arrives.

The rumor also says Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil 10 may use Capcom’s newer REX Engine instead of the RE Engine used in recent Resident Evil games. That could suggest Capcom is preparing a larger technology shift for future titles.

One part of the rumor has stronger backing. Ada Wong is expected to appear in Resident Evil Requiem DLC, and that detail has been supported by Dusk Golem. The rest of the roadmap is still unconfirmed.

If even part of this is accurate, Capcom could have one of the busiest schedules in its history. Devil May Cry may be coming back through a remake, while Resident Evil could continue with both remakes and a new mainline sequel through the end of the decade.

For now, the safest view is simple: Ada Wong DLC for Resident Evil Requiem sounds more believable, while the Devil May Cry remake and full Resident Evil roadmap remain exciting but unproven.
