Batman: Arkham Knight joins Xbox Play Anywhere as more major games may follow

Batman: Arkham Knight has quietly joined Xbox Play Anywhere, giving Xbox owners access to the PC version at no extra cost. If you already own the game on Xbox, you should now be able to find the PC version in the Xbox app.

This is a notable addition because Xbox Play Anywhere is usually linked to new releases, not older games from the Xbox One era. Batman: Arkham Knight first launched in 2015, so its arrival in the program suggests Microsoft may be expanding support for more legacy titles.

Xbox Play Anywhere lets you buy a game once and play it across Xbox console and Windows PC, usually with shared saves and achievements. That makes it more useful now as handheld PCs such as the ROG Xbox Ally become more popular. A game that supports Play Anywhere can move more easily between console, desktop, and portable PC.

The timing is also interesting because Batman: Arkham Knight was recently spotted with hidden handheld related tags. Other games were reportedly seen with similar tags too, which has led to speculation that more major titles could be prepared for Xbox Play Anywhere support.

Baldur’s Gate 3 would be the biggest possible addition if it happens. Fans have been asking for Xbox Play Anywhere support for Larian’s RPG, and rumors about it joining the program have been around since late 2025. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but Arkham Knight’s sudden addition gives those rumors more attention.

This also strengthens Microsoft’s push to make Xbox purchases more flexible. If more older games gain Play Anywhere support, buying on Xbox becomes more appealing for players who also use a PC handheld or gaming laptop.

For Batman: Arkham Knight, the change is useful even if the console version itself has not received a new Series X and S performance update. Many players still want a 60FPS or higher resolution patch on console, but the PC version gives another option if you want better performance on stronger hardware.

The bigger story is what this could mean for the Xbox PC library. If Microsoft can convince more publishers to add legacy games to Xbox Play Anywhere, the program could become a stronger reason to buy multiplatform games through Xbox instead of another storefront.

For now, Batman: Arkham Knight is the confirmed win. The rest is still speculation, but this is the kind of update that makes Xbox Play Anywhere feel much more valuable.
