A new leak claims TSMC will raise chip prices by about 10% in Q4 2026, which could push AMD Radeon graphics card prices up again before the year ends. The timing is the weak point: the only TSMC price increase that drew a company response was reported for the start of 2027, not this quarter.
The claim comes from ChannelGate, a Chinese insider account that reportedly posts to hardware insider channels. X user @harukaze5719 relayed and translated it in a post on September 17, 2026. Neither AMD nor TSMC has confirmed or denied it at the time of writing.
What the Q4 2026 TSMC price hike leak claims
According to the leak, TSMC has already told its customers, AMD included, that chip costs will rise "about 10%" in the fourth quarter. That window runs from October 1 to December 31, 2026.
The increase reportedly covers AI accelerator chips, consumer GPUs and motherboard chipsets. That last category is why AMD-based motherboards are being mentioned alongside Radeon cards.
Ryzen processors are not named in the leaked post. AMD's client CPU dies are also made at TSMC, but no source claims a Ryzen price change, and AMD has said nothing about one.
The cost driver is also different from earlier rounds this year. Those were attributed to GDDR6 and VRAM costs, while this leak describes a general TSMC wafer increase that applies regardless of memory size.
Why the leak's timing does not match TSMC's own statement
In July 2026, it was reported that TSMC would raise chipmaking prices by up to 10% at the start of 2027. Asked to confirm that report, a TSMC spokesperson did not give a percentage or a date.
"Our pricing strategy is strategic, not opportunistic. We will continue to work closely with customers and sell our value to them," the spokesperson said, without adding detail.
That 2027 report is the one with an on-record response, and it lands at least a quarter later than the leak's Q4 2026 window. No source ties the two together, so they may describe one negotiation at different stages or two separate cost actions.
Neither the leak nor either company addresses the gap. Until one of them does, the Q4 2026 date rests on a single insider account.
What AMD has said about graphics card prices
AMD has not issued any statement about a Q4 2026 price change, and its newsroom lists no related release at the time of writing. Its executives have, however, spoken about costs on the record.
At CES 2026 in January, David McAfee, AMD's VP and GM of Ryzen and Radeon, said: "I'm not going to say prices across all these components will remain flat. I think inevitably, something's going to happen."
He added that AMD was "trying to mitigate that as much as possible" to keep value for buyers. He also said he was not concerned that current constraints would lead to a GPU shortage.
On AMD's Q2 2026 earnings call in August, CEO Lisa Su went further. "Gaming graphics revenue also declined year-over-year as higher industry-wide component costs contributed to higher graphics card prices and weighed on overall demand," she said.
Su also said AMD is "planning for a softer PC market as higher memory and component costs weigh on demand" in the second half. AMD reported gaming segment revenue of $779 million, down 31% year over year, mainly because of lower semi-custom console chip sales.
How a Q4 increase would stack on earlier Radeon price rises
Any Q4 2026 change would land on top of the reported Q3 2026 guidance, when Radeon RX 9000 GPU prices rose by up to 20 percent. For reference, AMD launched the Radeon RX 9070 XT at $599 and the RX 9070 at $549 in March 2025.
Board partners have moved too. In April 2026, the ASUS Prime Radeon RX 9070 XT OC went from $799.99 to $939.99 on ASUS's US store, without any announcement.
Prices have not moved in only one direction, as the Radeon RX 9070 GRE drop to $479 in August showed. The RX 9000 series also remains AMD's current gaming lineup, with most RDNA 5 gaming GPUs reportedly shifting to 2028.
What is not confirmed yet
The leaker's original post could not be independently verified, and the percentage, start date and affected products all come from that one account. AMD has not said whether it would pass any TSMC increase on to board partners or buyers, or by how much.
The leak's Q4 window opens on October 1, and neither company has said when it will comment. Prices mentioned here can change, so check current listings before buying a Radeon card or AMD motherboard.
