Amazon is significantly expanding the Ring ecosystem, turning its popular video doorbells into a broader home safety and smart home platform. Announced during CES 2026, the update introduces fire alerts, a dedicated Ring app store, and a new lineup of environmental and security sensors.
The changes mark one of the biggest upgrades to Ring since Amazon acquired the company, pushing it beyond video security and into full home monitoring.
Fire alerts bring safety beyond security
Ring doorbells and cameras will now support fire-related alerts, including notifications tied to smoke and potential fire activity. In supported areas, Ring will also surface community-based fire awareness alerts, adding another layer of early warning for homeowners.
These alerts aim to complement traditional smoke alarms rather than replace them, giving users faster visibility through the Ring app when something goes wrong.
New sensors expand home monitoring
Amazon also unveiled a range of new Ring sensors designed to monitor more than doors and motion. The new lineup includes smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, water leak sensors, temperature monitors, air quality sensors, glass break sensors, and updated contact sensors for doors and windows.
Some of these devices rely on Amazon Sidewalk, Amazon’s low-power network that helps sensors stay connected even when Wi-Fi drops. This allows Ring to cover more parts of the home while using less power.
Together, the sensors position Ring as a more direct competitor to full home security and monitoring systems.
Ring app store opens the platform
One of the most notable changes is the launch of a Ring App Store. For the first time, users can install third-party apps and integrations directly inside the Ring app.
The app store debuts in the U.S., with Amazon confirming plans to expand to additional regions later. Some apps may require separate subscriptions or third-party accounts, but the move signals a shift toward a more open Ring ecosystem.
Smarter alerts powered by AI
Amazon also improved Ring’s alert system using AI-based detection. Ring devices can now flag unusual activity, learn common patterns around a home, and reduce unnecessary notifications.
These smarter alerts aim to make Ring notifications more relevant, especially for busy households that already receive frequent motion and package alerts.
A larger push from Amazon
The Ring updates fit into Amazon’s broader CES 2026 strategy, which also highlighted advancements across Alexa, Fire TV, and ambient AI features. By expanding Ring into safety sensors, environmental monitoring, and third-party apps, Amazon is positioning Ring as a central hub for the smart home rather than just a video doorbell.
With fire alerts, an app store, and new sensors rolling out, Ring users can expect their devices to play a much larger role in everyday home safety and automation.
