007 First Light runs at 4K 60FPS on Xbox Series X, but Series S is limited to 1080p 30FPS

007 First Light is now being tested across Xbox consoles, and the early footage shows a clear split between Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. The Series X version offers both Quality and Performance modes, while the Series S version sticks to a single 1080p 30FPS mode.

On Xbox Series X, Quality Mode targets 4K at 30FPS. Performance Mode also outputs at 4K, but targets 60FPS instead. The actual native resolution appears to be lower than the output resolution, with early testing suggesting around 1440p to 1662p in Quality Mode and roughly 864p to 1080p in Performance Mode.

That means the 60FPS option makes a visible tradeoff. The game runs smoother, but the internal resolution can drop much lower in busier moments. Still, the footage suggests Performance Mode holds up reasonably well, with only occasional dips into the mid 50s during demanding scenes.

Xbox Series S gets a stable but simpler version

The Xbox Series S version is more limited. It only offers one mode, running at 1080p and 30FPS. Visual quality is noticeably lower than on Series X, but the performance appears steady. Early footage shows the frame rate mostly holding its 30FPS target, with only small drops to around 28FPS or 29FPS.

For Series X players, the choice will likely come down to preference. Quality Mode should look cleaner on a 4K display, while Performance Mode will feel better during movement, shooting, stealth, and action scenes. Since 007 First Light mixes cinematic storytelling with third person action, both modes have a real use case.

For Series S players, the result is less flexible but still acceptable. A 1080p 30FPS target is not surprising for a visually ambitious third party game, especially one that is also launching across multiple platforms. The important point is that the frame rate appears stable enough to avoid feeling broken or poorly optimized.

The gap between Series X and Series S is still obvious. Series X players get higher resolution options and a 60FPS mode, while Series S players get a more basic version. That difference has become common in newer console releases as developers push current hardware harder.

The good news is that 007 First Light does not appear to be in rough shape on Xbox. Series X performance looks mostly smooth, and Series S seems to hold its target well. The bigger question is which mode Series X players will prefer. If the lower internal resolution in Performance Mode is too noticeable on a large 4K TV, Quality Mode may be the better choice. If smoothness matters more, 60FPS will likely be the way to play.

For now, IO Interactive’s Bond game looks solid across both Xbox consoles, but Series X clearly gives the better experience.
