Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Already Runs on PC at 15 to 30 FPS Through Switch 2 Emulation

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake has reportedly started running on PC through Nintendo Switch 2 emulation, just hours after its official release on November 5, 2026.

Early demonstrations show the game operating through the Lichii emulator, although performance remains inconsistent and several graphical problems prevent it from providing a reliable gaming experience.

The development follows recent progress in Nintendo Switch 2 homebrew, including the console's first reported jailbreak in October.

Meanwhile, another community developer has begun working on an unofficial native PC port, but that project currently crashes before gameplay begins.

Ocarina of Time Remake Reaches 30 FPS in Early PC Emulation

Several videos shared on Reddit reportedly demonstrate the remake running through the Lichii emulator.

The footage shows frame rates fluctuating between approximately 15 and 30 FPS, accompanied by visual glitches and other compatibility problems.

Although these results demonstrate early progress, the game is not yet considered fully playable through emulation.

For comparison, the original Nintendo 64 version of Ocarina of Time operated at approximately 20 FPS in NTSC regions and 16.67 FPS in PAL territories.

However, the remake targets modern hardware, making its current emulation performance considerably less representative of the intended experience.

Recent developments involving other Switch 2 games suggest that compatibility could improve as emulator developers continue refining their software.

Still, there is no confirmed timeline for achieving stable performance or resolving the existing graphical issues.

Unofficial Native PC Port Also Enters Early Development

Alongside emulation efforts, community developers are exploring ways to run the remake directly on PC without relying on a conventional console emulator.

One project developed by Reddit user Remarkable-Net6962 can reportedly launch the game's introductory sequence.

However, the application crashes when actual gameplay begins, indicating that substantial development work remains.

Native ports could eventually offer additional performance and compatibility options, but the current project remains experimental.

Nintendo has not announced an official Windows release of the remake.

The game launched exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 as part of The Legend of Zelda franchise's 40th anniversary celebrations.

Early reviews have been positive, with one assessment awarding the remake 9.5 out of 10 for its updated presentation and gameplay improvements.

For now, the emulator demonstrations show that the remake can execute on PC hardware, but they do not establish that it is ready for regular play.

Further work will be necessary before either unofficial approach can provide a stable alternative to the Nintendo Switch 2 release.
