Xbox Insiders can now test new startup animation and Gamerscore badges

Microsoft is rolling out a new Xbox Insider update with a refreshed startup sequence, tiered Gamerscore badges, and improved game library filters.

The new startup animation was teased earlier this month by Xbox CEO Asha Sharma. It is now available to select Xbox Insiders before a wider public rollout. The animation uses Xbox’s updated logo, bringing back the brand’s classic green look with a slightly changed startup sound.

The bigger change for achievement hunters is the new Gamerscore badge system. Xbox profiles will now show a tiered badge based on a player’s lifetime Gamerscore. The badge starts at 1,000 Gamerscore and scales all the way up to 10 million, though Microsoft is still keeping the 10 million badge design hidden for now.

These badges will appear on player profiles and in the Xbox Guide menu, giving players a quick way to show long term achievement progress.

Library filtersHelps separate owned, shared, installed, and unavailable games

The new library filters may be the most practical part of the update. Xbox says the goal is to make it easier to understand what games you can actually play and why.

Players will be able to separate games they own from games shared with them. The filters can also identify installed games that are no longer playable because access has expired or changed. That should help reduce confusion when switching between consoles, using shared libraries, or moving between devices.

Xbox Senior Product Manager Alex Charters said the new filters are meant to make it clearer what is in your library and what is actually playable.

This is a useful quality of life update. Xbox libraries can get messy, especially with Game Pass, free play weekends, owned games, shared games, and titles installed from older subscriptions. Better filters should make the library easier to manage.

The update is rolling out today to select Xbox Insider members. Microsoft will expand testing to more Insiders over time before releasing these features to all Xbox users.

The Gamerscore badges are not a full achievement overhaul, but they are a nice step. Xbox achievements have needed more visibility for years, and badges give longtime players another way to show their progress.

Combined with the new boot animation and better filters, this Insider update continues Xbox’s recent push toward more frequent interface and user experience improvements.
