Xbox Hints Marvel’s Blade Could Return Later in 2026

Xbox chief content officer Matt Booty has suggested that Marvel’s Blade could still appear later this year, even though the Arkane Lyon game was missing from the Xbox Games Showcase. The comment is not a firm reveal date, but it gives fans another sign that the project is still alive and may return before 2026 ends.

Marvel’s Blade was announced at The Game Awards in 2023 as a single player third person action adventure from Arkane Lyon, the studio behind Dishonored and Deathloop. Since that first reveal, Microsoft and Bethesda have shared very little about the game. That long silence has led some fans to worry that the project may have been delayed heavily or quietly canceled.

Those fears grew after Blade skipped the latest Xbox Games Showcase, which included major titles such as Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day, Fable, and Clockwork Revolution. For a game announced more than two years ago, another absence naturally raised questions.

Matt Booty says Xbox has more moments planned this year

When asked why Blade did not appear at the showcase, Booty said Xbox could not fit everything into one event and that there are “other beats” coming later in the year. He also said there is always potential to hear more about games that did not appear at the show.

That is careful language, not a promise. Still, it suggests Xbox is not treating Blade as a missing or abandoned project. Instead, Microsoft may be saving it for another event or a separate reveal.

The most likely places for a new Blade update would be Gamescom Opening Night Live in August or The Game Awards in December. Xbox could also show it through its own dedicated presentation if Microsoft wants to control the message more directly.

Arkane has already pushed back against cancellation fears

The lack of updates around Blade has been unusual, but there have been small signs that development is continuing. An Arkane developer recently posted a “Let us cook” style message, which many fans took as a quiet response to cancellation rumors.

Booty’s new comments add to that reassurance. He did not say the game is close, but he also did not avoid the topic. For a project as anticipated as Blade, even that matters.

Arkane Lyon is a strong match for the character on paper. The studio is known for immersive worlds, stylish combat, player freedom, and strong level design. Blade also fits a darker, more physical action tone than many superhero games, which could give Arkane room to build something different from the usual open world comic book formula.

Blade could become an important test for Xbox exclusivity

One of the biggest unanswered questions is whether Marvel’s Blade will be an Xbox console exclusive. Microsoft owns Bethesda and Arkane, and Xbox has recently signaled a renewed interest in exclusives with Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution.

That makes Blade more important than a normal licensed game. If it stays exclusive, it could become another major reason to buy into Xbox hardware or Game Pass. If it launches on PlayStation too, it would show that Microsoft is still willing to treat some major first party games as multiplatform releases.

Xbox has not confirmed either path yet. Booty’s next update, whenever it arrives, may need to clarify platforms as much as gameplay.

Xbox needs to show Blade when it is ready

The smarter move may be waiting until Blade has real gameplay to show. Xbox has been criticized in the past for announcing games too early, and Blade already spent years in near silence after its reveal. A second cinematic trailer without gameplay might not be enough to reset the conversation.

Fans need to see how Arkane is handling combat, movement, stealth, level design, and Blade’s vampire hunter abilities. The game’s promise is strong, but the next reveal has to prove what kind of experience it actually is.

For now, the message is simple. Blade missed the Xbox showcase, but Xbox is not acting like the game has disappeared. Booty’s comments suggest there may be another chance to see it later in 2026, and that should be enough to calm some concerns while fans wait for a proper gameplay reveal.
