Windows 11 Phone Link Could Soon Let Android Phones Shut Down or Restart Your PC

Microsoft appears to be preparing new remote PC controls for Phone Link that would let Android smartphone owners shut down, restart, sleep, or update their Windows 11 computers from their phones.

The feature has not been officially announced yet, but references found in Phone Link components point to several power controls being added. These include restart, shut down, update and restart, update and shut down, and sleep.

Phone Link already allows your Android phone to connect closely with a Windows 11 PC for notifications, calls, messages, and other functions. The new controls would extend that connection by giving you basic power management options even when you are away from the keyboard.

Remote power controls appear to be in development

The strongest evidence comes from internal labels and strings associated with a component called RemoteControlManager.

References such as pc_controls_restart_label and pc_controls_shutdown_label indicate that restart and shut down functions are being prepared. Additional strings for update and restart, update and shut down, and sleep suggest that Microsoft is planning a broader set of remote actions.

The exact interface and rollout schedule remain unknown. Microsoft has also not confirmed whether every Android phone that currently supports Phone Link will receive the feature.

Sleep mode may limit further remote access

The sleep option could come with an important limitation.

If you remotely put your PC to sleep, the connection between the phone and Windows machine may no longer remain available in the same way. The report indicates that some power actions may require you to unlock the computer again before additional remote commands can be used.

That means the feature is likely intended for simple convenience rather than complete remote administration.

For example, you could shut down a desktop from another room after realizing it was left running, or restart a PC without returning to the desk. Update related controls could also be useful if Windows is ready to install updates and you want to handle the restart remotely.

Microsoft continues expanding Phone Link

Phone Link has gradually become one of the main bridges between Android devices and Windows 11.

Its existing features include notification syncing and the ability to make and receive calls through a connected PC. Remote system controls would move the app further into device management territory.

The feature is still unconfirmed, so it should be treated as functionality currently under development rather than something available today.

Microsoft has not provided a launch date, and the final implementation could change before release. Still, the internal references suggest that Windows 11 may soon give Android phone owners a more convenient way to manage basic PC power functions without physically touching the computer.
