Where Winds Meet 2.0 Roadmap Adds Extraction Mode, Drunken Fist and New Story Chapters

Where Winds Meet is expanding its ongoing 2.0 era with new story chapters, a fresh martial arts style, folklore themed events and an extraction mode built around risk, stealth and survival.

The free to play open world Wuxia RPG entered its 2.0 phase on July 23 with the Hidden Mountain expansion. That update introduced a new region filled with ancient Mohist technology, environmental puzzles, vertical exploration, underground ruins and floating structures.

The next wave of content continues that expansion through September, with major additions arriving across both story and gameplay.

Hidden Mountain story continues in September

Hidden Mountain Chapter 2, titled Heaven's Threshold, launched on August 20 with additional story content and challenges.

The next chapter arrives on September 16 and is set to conclude the main Hidden Mountain storyline.

Chapter 3 will bring the protagonist back into contact with Qianye, the enemy responsible for burning Blissful Retreat and taking away the protagonist's family and friends. It will mark their first direct confrontation since that event.

The chapter will also introduce new boss encounters that mix mythical creatures with ancient Mohist machinery.

Everstone Studio is using Hidden Mountain to push the game's exploration in a more vertical direction. The region includes paths that move between mountain peaks, suspended structures and underground areas, giving you more varied routes through the environment.

New extraction mode does not require direct combat

One of the more unusual additions is a new extraction mode planned for September.

The mode will focus on risk, survival and escaping with valuable treasure, but combat will not be your only option.

You will be able to fight through encounters, hide from enemies, use disguises to mislead rivals or attempt to steal treasure without drawing a weapon at all.

That approach gives the mode a broader set of strategies than a traditional combat focused extraction format.

The developer says the goal is to let you decide how to survive and escape rather than forcing one fixed playstyle.

Drunken Fist arrives on September 3

A new martial arts style called Drunken Fist will be added on September 3.

The style draws inspiration from classic martial arts cinema and is being developed with input from action director Yuen Woo ping, whose film credits include Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, The Matrix, Kill Bill and The Grandmaster.

The addition is intended to bring more cinematic choreography to Where Winds Meet's combat system while expanding the range of martial arts available to players.

A Ghost Month adventure is also in development. The event will focus on Eastern folklore, supernatural stories and traditional taboos, bringing a darker tone to the Jianghu setting.

Where Winds Meet has passed 100 million players

Everstone Studio says Where Winds Meet has now reached more than 100 million players across PC, consoles and mobile.

The studio plans to keep expanding not only the map, but also the ways players interact with the world.

Future updates are expected to continue adding regions, stories, movement options, martial arts styles and new gameplay systems.

The 2.0 roadmap suggests that Where Winds Meet is moving beyond straightforward content expansion. With stealth friendly extraction gameplay, new combat styles and more experimental regional design, the studio is broadening how you can approach the game's open world rather than simply adding more locations to explore.
