V-Color Starts Selling DDR5 Kits With One Real RAM Stick and One RGB Dummy

V-Color has started selling an unusual DDR5 memory kit that includes two matching modules, but only one of them contains usable memory. The second module is an RGB filler designed to give a PC the appearance of a two stick setup.

The new Manta XSky package combines one functional 16GB DDR5 module with one non memory filler. Although both modules occupy DIMM slots and look similar inside the system, the configuration still operates with just 16GB of usable memory.

The idea was first introduced earlier in 2026 as a lower cost entry option for systems where buyers might want to add a second real memory module later. The concept also gives builders a visually balanced RGB setup without purchasing two active DIMMs at once.

The active module is DDR5 6000 CL28

The retail version currently listed uses a single 16GB DDR5 6000 module rated at CL28. It runs with 28 36 36 96 timings at 1.4V and supports AMD EXPO profiles.

The second module does not contain DRAM and therefore does not contribute any capacity or memory bandwidth. As a result, the system remains a single channel 16GB configuration despite having two physical modules installed.

Pricing makes the concept difficult to justify

The kit is currently listed at €329.90, which is unusually high for 16GB of usable DDR5 memory.

For comparison, complete 16GB DDR5 6000 kits with two functioning 8GB modules were available in early 2025 for roughly €64 to €90. Even with memory prices rising significantly since then, some current two module 16GB DDR5 6000 kits in Europe are listed at roughly €280 to €320.

That means V-Color's package can cost more than competing kits that include two working DIMMs instead of one working module and one decorative filler.

The comparison is particularly important because the V-Color kit does not provide the performance benefits normally associated with a two DIMM configuration. Installing two physical modules does not create dual channel memory when one of them contains no DRAM.

The filler module is mainly about appearance

V-Color has offered RGB filler modules before, mainly for builders who wanted to populate empty DIMM slots while using an existing pair of functioning memory modules.

The difference with this new package is that the dummy module is now sold directly alongside a single active stick as a standard kit.

That approach may appeal to buyers who care about the visual symmetry of a PC build and plan to purchase another functional module later. However, until that upgrade happens, you are paying for a system that looks like it has two memory sticks while operating with the capacity and memory configuration of only one.

The Manta XSky 1+1 kit is now available at retail with 16GB of usable DDR5 6000 memory and one matching RGB filler module.
