Bethesda officially revealed The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel on November 3, 2026, but players hoping for an imminent release may have to wait considerably longer.
According to Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, Microsoft and Bethesda are currently targeting a release window more than two years away, suggesting the highly anticipated RPG will not arrive before late 2028.
Schreier emphasized that this information comes from knowledge of the game's development schedule rather than speculation about when it might launch.
However, Bethesda has not publicly announced an official release date or confirmed the reported timeline.
The news follows the game's recent name reveal and brief teaser trailer, which provided few details about its gameplay or development progress.
The Elder Scrolls VI Could Release in 2029 or Later
Following Bethesda's announcement, Schreier stated that The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel remains more than two years away from release.
He subsequently clarified that he was reporting the development team's targeted timeframe rather than making a personal prediction.
His comments attracted criticism from some fans who had expected the game to arrive sooner.
In response, Schreier reiterated that his information reflected the current release target.
With development reportedly extending beyond November 2028, a launch in 2029 or later remains possible.
However, the available information does not establish a specific release year, and development schedules can change.
The Elder Scrolls VI was originally announced in 2018, meaning the game could spend more than a decade between its initial reveal and eventual release.
Bethesda has provided relatively few updates during that period, although the recent Sentinel announcement represents a significant development.
The Elder Scrolls VI May Arrive on Microsoft's Next Xbox
The reported schedule also raises questions about which Xbox consoles will support the game.
If Sentinel launches in 2029 or later, Microsoft's next generation Xbox hardware, currently associated with Project Helix, could become its primary console platform.
However, neither Microsoft nor Bethesda has confirmed whether the game will support Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S.
A later release could also provide Bethesda additional development time for its next major roleplaying experience.
For now, the only confirmed development is the game's official title reveal.
Schreier's reporting suggests that Bethesda is still planning for a lengthy development period, making an immediate release unlikely despite the recent teaser.
Players will need to await further announcements before the release date and supported platforms become clear.
