TCL 98-Inch QM64L Mini LED Fire TV Drops to $1,799.99 at Amazon, $400 Under Its Typical Price

The 98-inch TCL QM64L QD-Mini LED Fire TV is $1,799.99 at Amazon, or $400 below the $2,199.99 the listing calls its typical price. That anchor is not a manufacturer list price, and the page defines it as the 90-day median paid by Amazon customers.

Amazon.com holds the buy box, and the listing offers a single buying option with no Prime-only tier beneath it. There is also no used or open-box row undercutting the new price, which large televisions often carry.

The set is a 2026 model sold as 98QM64L. It pairs a 4K QD-Mini LED panel with a native 144Hz refresh rate and Fire TV software, the same platform behind the 55-inch F7D QLED at $349.99.

TCL does not sell the QM64L itself in the United States. Its US storefront lists the QM6K, QM7L and QM8L series with no QM64L entry, because the line is an Amazon exclusive.

The only full specification sheet TCL publishes for the model sits on its Canadian site, where the 98QM64L page is marked sold out and shows no price. A smaller sibling in the same series, the 55-inch QM64L, fell below $500 in July.

What it takes to get 98 inches into a room

TCL’s dimension sheet puts the panel at 85.83 inches wide and 49.20 inches tall without the stand, at a depth of 2.52 inches. With the two feet fitted it stands 50.59 inches tall and 16.54 inches deep.

The feet sit 71.21 inches apart. Any console underneath therefore needs to be close to six feet wide, and a narrower one will not take it.

Retailer listings give the shipping carton as 93.86 by 56.3 by 8.46 inches, with a weight of 192.2 pounds. That weight has been reported by sellers rather than published by TCL, and neither listing says whether it includes the stand.

Both sides of that carton measure more than a standard 32-inch doorway, so the box has to be angled and carried on its 8.46-inch edge. A turn on a stairwell landing is the harder problem at that weight.

TCL’s quick start guide for the 98QM64L recommends three people for assembly, with two holding the set upright while a third fits the stands. For wall mounting it is blunter, stating that the product should only be mounted by a professional installer.

It also calls for a VESA 600 x 500 mount rated to five times the net weight, or roughly 960 pounds here. Seating distance matters as well, since the 30-degree field SMPTE recommends puts a sofa about 13 feet back.

What the panel gives up to reach 98 inches

TCL lists the screen as an HVA panel running 8 bits plus 2-bit dithering rather than a native 10-bit panel. Backlight system contrast is given as 5000:1 typical, with DCI-P3 coverage of 93%.

Brightness is the larger gap. TCL fills both of its brightness rows with the phrase "HDR high brightness" and publishes no nit figure anywhere for this model.

The dimming zone count is missing in the same way. Amazon’s listing claims up to 500 zones, while TCL’s own row for contrast control zones reads simply "Yes".

Gaming carries a catch as well. TCL restricts 4K at 144Hz to HDMI 1 and 2, leaves ports 3 and 4 at 4K/60Hz, and notes in the quick start guide that 144Hz only works once VRR is switched on.

Wi-Fi is 802.11ac rather than Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 7. Off-axis performance looks modest too, since TCL quotes 60 degrees horizontally and vertically for brightness against the panel’s 178-degree viewing angle.

How it compares with other large screens near $1,800

Sony 77-inch BRAVIA 6 OLED$1,798.0077-inch OLED, Google TVAmazon.com

The closest match is TCL’s own 98-inch QM6K at $1,799.99, the same size for the same money with Google TV instead of Fire TV. Picking between the two is largely a question of which software a household already lives in.

LG’s 98-inch Nano AI NU85 is $1,499.99, which is $300 less for the same screen size. It uses a conventional LED backlight rather than Mini LED, and its listing carries a separate Used - Like New row at $1,424.99 below the new price.

That LG set held the same $1,499.99 figure in late September, so the gap between the two is not a passing one.

Size against panel quality is best framed by Sony’s 77-inch BRAVIA 6 OLED at $1,798.00, which undercuts the TCL by $1.99. Giving up 21 inches buys a self-emissive OLED panel with per-pixel blacks, and the same model sat at $2,198 in September.

What the listing does not say

Amazon’s page publishes no peak brightness, no DCI-P3 figure and no contrast ratio. It never states that two of the four HDMI ports stop at 4K/60Hz, and it lists neither an item weight nor a boxed size.

There is no end date on the discount and no countdown badge on the listing. Amazon prices move without notice, and the $1,799.99 figure was read from the live listing on October 8, 2026.
