Wondering how to turn off Facebook sounds on Android or iOS? For some reason, the Facebook app is designed to play annoying sounds that alert you (and everyone else around) whenever you post or like something. However, if you find them too loud and are sick of hearing them all the time, you can mute Facebook sounds in a matter of seconds. Here’s how to turn off the sound on Facebook on your Android smartphone or tablet and your iPhone or iPad:
The Facebook sound settings are somewhat buried in the Android app’s menus. Launch the Facebook app on your Android smartphone or tablet, and then tap on the hamburger button in the top-right corner.
Scroll down to the bottom of the screen. If it’s not expanded already, tap on the Settings & Privacy option to open its dropdown menu. Then, press on the first option, Settings.
In the list of Facebook settings, under Preferences, tap on Media.
The Facebook sound settings are shown at the bottom of the next screen, in the “Video and Photo Settings” section. Tap on the “Sounds in the app” option to disable the switch next to it and turn off sounds in the Facebook app.
This turns the Facebook sounds off, letting you interact with the popular app on your Android smartphone without their annoying soundtrack.
TIP: Disabling the Facebook in-app sounds does not stop videos from loudly playing when you come across them in your feed. So, to avoid any loud noises and check Facebook unobserved, we recommend either enabling “Never Autoplay Videos” or turning off the “Videos Start With Sound” option under Autoplay, as seen below.
If you want to know how to turn off sounds in Facebook for iOS, the steps are very similar. First, open the app on your iPhone or iPad and tap on the hamburger Menu button in the lower-right corner.
Next, scroll down to the bottom of the screen. In the Settings & Privacy dropdown menu, tap on Settings.
In the Preferences section, find the Media entry and tap on it.
Tap on the In-App Sound switch to turn it off and mute Facebook sounds.
TIP: If you want to check your Facebook feed without drawing attention, check out the Autoplay section underneath. You can select the “Never Autoplay Videos” option or turn off “Videos Start With Sound,” as shown below.
Your settings are immediately applied. You can now resume using the Facebook app on your iPhone without its annoying sounds.
Now you know how to turn off in-app sounds on Facebook, if they also make you feel like you’re playing a mobile game instead of using an app to keep in touch with your friends. Whenever we start using the Facebook app on a new mobile device, it only takes a couple of seconds before we want to turn off the sounds.
