SpaceX could become the largest buyer of NVIDIA's next generation Vera Rubin AI computing systems in 2027, despite reportedly receiving a smaller allocation than it originally requested.
According to analyst estimates, Elon Musk's company sought 30,000 NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 racks but is expected to receive approximately 20,000.
The allocation would represent nearly 21% of an estimated 96,000 AI computing racks available across the market in 2027.
Although NVIDIA has not confirmed these figures, the estimates suggest that SpaceX is preparing a significant expansion of its AI infrastructure and cloud computing operations.
SpaceX Could Account for One Fifth of NVIDIA's 2027 AI Rack Market
The projections indicate substantial demand for NVIDIA's Vera Rubin platform, which succeeds the company's existing Blackwell generation of AI accelerators.
Each NVL72 system integrates 72 GPUs within a rack designed for large AI training and inference workloads.
The analyst expects NVIDIA's overall rack market to reach 73,000 systems in 2026 and increase to 96,000 in 2027.
| Metric | Analyst estimate |
|---|---|
| SpaceX original request | 30,000 racks |
| Expected SpaceX allocation | 20,000 racks |
| Total 2027 rack market | 96,000 racks |
| SpaceX market share | Approximately 20.8% |
| Six major neocloud providers | 34,000 racks |
The six major neocloud providers are expected to account for approximately 35% of the projected 2027 market.
Meanwhile, Taiwan's Foxconn could reportedly handle around 45% of SpaceX's data center assembly orders.
SpaceX Reportedly Raises $40 Billion in Debt for AI Infrastructure
Musk recently discussed SpaceX's financing activities, claiming the company had raised $40 billion in debt to support expensive NVIDIA GPU purchases.
He argued that SpaceX could secure financing because of its strong credit profile and existing revenue streams.

Musk also warned that smaller AI cloud infrastructure providers could face financial difficulties as borrowing requirements increase.
Such companies often require substantial upfront investment before generating sufficient revenue from their computing capacity.
NVIDIA Vera Rubin Demand Expected to Increase in 2027
The analyst expects Vera Rubin production to accelerate in early 2027, with newer systems accounting for a growing proportion of NVIDIA's rack shipments.
However, the reported allocation figures remain projections rather than confirmed purchase deliveries.
The cost of complete NVL72 systems could also remain substantial because of expensive memory, advanced processors, and constrained component supplies.
If the estimates prove accurate, SpaceX would become one of NVIDIA's most important infrastructure customers while competing for limited advanced AI computing capacity.
