Microsoft has started selling the Snapdragon X2 versions of its latest Surface devices for business customers, expanding its Arm based PC lineup beyond consumer hardware.
The Surface Laptop 8 for Business is available with either a Snapdragon X2 Plus or Snapdragon X2 Elite processor. Microsoft has also launched a Snapdragon X2 version of the 13 inch Surface Pro 12 for Business.
Both devices previously arrived with Intel processors, giving companies a choice between x86 and Arm based hardware. The new Snapdragon models are aimed at organizations that want longer battery life, improved efficiency, and access to the latest Copilot Plus PC features.
The official product names are Surface Laptop for Business 8th Edition and Surface Pro for Business 12th Edition, although the shorter names are easier to use.
Surface Laptop 8 for Business includes an optional privacy screen
The most notable feature of the Surface Laptop 8 for Business is its integrated privacy screen.
When enabled, the display makes content difficult to read from an angle. This can help protect sensitive information in offices, airports, trains, shared workspaces, and other public environments.
Unlike many third party privacy filters, Microsoft’s system is designed to reduce visibility from several directions rather than only from the sides. The feature is exclusive to the business version of the Surface Laptop 8 and is not currently available on the consumer model.
The laptop also includes a haptic trackpad that works with newer Windows 11 interactions. Supported actions can produce physical feedback when you drag files, move items, or perform certain tasks.
Only a small number of Windows PCs currently support these expanded haptic features, making the Surface Laptop 8 one of the first devices to take advantage of them.
| Feature | Surface Laptop 8 for Business | Surface Pro 12 for Business |
|---|---|---|
| Processor options | Snapdragon X2 Plus or X2 Elite | Snapdragon X2 |
| Form factor | Traditional laptop | Detachable 2 in 1 |
| Display size | Laptop configuration | 13 inches |
| Privacy screen | Available | Not listed |
| Haptic trackpad | Supported | Depends on keyboard accessory |

Surface Pro 12 receives a smaller hardware update
The Surface Pro 12 for Business keeps the familiar detachable design that Microsoft has refined over several generations.
Its main change is the Snapdragon X2 processor, which provides better graphics performance than the first generation Snapdragon X platform. The overall design and feature set remain close to the previous model.

That may make the upgrade less dramatic than the Surface Laptop 8, but the Surface Pro design is already well established. It continues to support tablet use, keyboard input, pen work, and traditional desktop applications within one device.
One important limitation is mobile connectivity. The Snapdragon X2 version does not include a 5G option. Customers who need built in 5G connectivity must choose the Intel version of the Surface Pro for Business.
Business models include management and warranty features
Microsoft’s business Surface PCs include several features that are not normally offered with consumer models.
These options are mainly designed for IT departments managing large groups of devices. They include Windows 11 Pro or Enterprise, advanced warranty services, cloud based device management, Windows Autopilot registration, and corporate domain setup during the initial configuration.
Business customers can also use the Surface Management Portal and Device Firmware Configuration Interface controls to manage security and hardware settings.
| Business feature | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Windows 11 Pro or Enterprise | Adds business security and management tools |
| Advanced Exchange Warranty | Provides expanded support and replacement options |
| Windows Autopilot registration | Simplifies company device deployment |
| Surface Management Portal | Allows cloud based administration |
| Firmware configuration controls | Helps IT teams manage hardware settings |
| Corporate domain onboarding | Connects devices to company systems during setup |
| Intel processor options | Supports organizations that still require x86 hardware |
These features may not be useful for most home buyers. Anyone can purchase a Surface for Business device, but the price may include management tools and support services that an individual customer will never use.
The privacy screen is the strongest reason for a general customer to consider the business version of the Surface Laptop 8. It provides a practical feature that is unavailable on the standard consumer model.
Microsoft no longer limits Snapdragon processors to consumer Surface PCs
When Microsoft first introduced Snapdragon X processors in the Surface lineup, consumer devices focused on Arm chips while business models largely remained with Intel.
That separation has now ended. Companies can choose Snapdragon or Intel versions depending on their software, connectivity, security, and management requirements.
The Snapdragon models may appeal to organizations that use web applications, Microsoft 365, video conferencing, and software that already runs well on Windows on Arm. Intel versions may remain the safer choice for companies that depend on older programs, specialized hardware, or specific drivers.
The Surface Laptop 8 for Business with Snapdragon X2 Plus or X2 Elite and the Surface Pro 12 for Business with Snapdragon X2 are now available to order. Their arrival gives business customers more flexibility, although buyers should compare processor compatibility, 5G requirements, and enterprise features before choosing between the Snapdragon and Intel models.
