Qualcomm Pulls Some Snapdragon C Efficiency Benchmarks Ahead of Budget Laptop Launch

Qualcomm has withdrawn part of its previously published benchmark data for the upcoming Snapdragon C processor, raising fresh questions about the chip’s real world efficiency in low cost Windows laptops.

The company recently shared performance and power efficiency comparisons for Snapdragon C, which is designed for affordable Windows 11 devices starting at around $300. However, updated material supplied to media no longer includes some of the original efficiency claims for idle applications and web browsing.

Qualcomm has not provided a detailed technical explanation for removing those results, saying only that the revised material was intended to improve clarity and relevance.

The change does not invalidate every benchmark the company previously shared, but it does make independent testing more important before buyers can judge how competitive Snapdragon C laptops will be.

Some efficiency claims are still in place

Several of Qualcomm’s original performance claims remain unchanged.

The company continues to state that Snapdragon C can deliver up to twice the power efficiency of Intel’s N250 processor during workloads such as Netflix playback and Microsoft Edge use.

The removed figures specifically concerned other scenarios, including idle application workloads and web browsing. Because browsing is one of the most common activities on inexpensive laptops, the lack of updated figures leaves an important part of the chip’s efficiency story unresolved.

The processor is positioned below Qualcomm’s higher end Snapdragon X series and is intended to bring Windows on ARM into less expensive laptops.

Snapdragon C targets the $300 Windows laptop market

Qualcomm is aiming Snapdragon C at entry level devices where battery life, responsiveness, and basic productivity matter more than demanding gaming or workstation performance.

The chip uses eight Kryo CPU cores with speeds of up to 3.0 GHz and supports as much as 16 GB of LPDDR5x memory. It also includes Adreno graphics and a Hexagon NPU.

Windows 11 on ARM has become more capable over the past several years, particularly in general application compatibility. Gaming remains one of the platform’s weaker areas, but that is less important for Snapdragon C because systems in its price category are unlikely to be marketed primarily as gaming laptops.

For buyers considering an inexpensive laptop, battery life may ultimately be one of Snapdragon C’s most important advantages. That makes the removal of web browsing efficiency measurements particularly notable.

Web use, document work, video playback, messaging, and lightweight productivity are likely to represent much of the workload on a $300 laptop.

Independent testing is now more important

The original Snapdragon C benchmark information came from Qualcomm rather than independent reviewers.

There was already reason to treat those comparisons carefully because the company focused heavily on unplugged performance. Snapdragon processors have often performed particularly well when running on battery power, while comparisons made under different power conditions can produce different results.

Qualcomm also did not initially provide equivalent information showing how Snapdragon C performs while connected to external power.

Now, with some of its own published efficiency results removed, there are even more reasons to wait for shipping laptops and third party testing before drawing firm conclusions about the processor.

The timing of the revision may also raise questions. The original material remained available for almost a week before Qualcomm requested that it be replaced.

That does not necessarily mean Snapdragon C will perform poorly. The remaining claims suggest the processor could still offer strong efficiency in some workloads, and its specifications appear suitable for the affordable laptop category it is targeting.

However, real world reviews will now carry greater weight.

For Snapdragon C to succeed, Qualcomm will need to show that inexpensive Windows on ARM laptops can provide competitive responsiveness and battery life during everyday tasks such as browsing, streaming, office work, and light multitasking.

Until independent systems reach reviewers, the removed benchmarks leave that question open.
