Valve has released a new Proton Experimental update with fixes for several PC games running through Linux and SteamOS. The update improves controller support in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 on desktop systems, while also resolving launch, crash, and loading issues affecting Arc Raiders, Trove, DIRT 5, and Crysis 2 Remastered.
For Steam Deck owners, Proton Experimental updates are usually downloaded automatically when the compatibility layer is already installed. Anyone who does not have it can search for Proton Experimental in the Steam Store and install it directly.
This is a smaller compatibility update, but it addresses issues in several games across different genres. That makes it useful for people playing on Steam Deck, desktop Linux PCs, or SteamOS based systems.
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Gets Better Desktop Controller Support
The update improves controller support for Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 when running on desktop systems. This should help players who use a gamepad on Linux PCs or connect a controller to a SteamOS device running on a monitor or TV.
Controller issues can be especially frustrating in large role playing games, where menus, combat, map navigation, and horse controls all depend on consistent input detection. The change should make the experience more reliable for players who prefer a controller instead of a keyboard and mouse setup.
The update also includes a fix for DIRT 5. The racing game could crash on processors with hybrid core designs, which are common in newer Intel desktop and laptop CPUs. Valve has now addressed that issue through Proton Experimental.
| Game | Fix included in the Proton Experimental update |
|---|---|
| Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 | Improved controller support on desktop systems |
| DIRT 5 | Fixed crashes on CPUs with hybrid cores |
| Arc Raiders | Fixed problems introduced on some systems after a recent game update |
| Trove Public Test Server | Fixed launch failures after a recent game update |
| Crysis 2 Remastered | Fixed a game loading hang when ray tracing is enabled |
Arc Raiders and Trove Launch Issues Have Been Addressed
Valve has also fixed Arc Raiders for certain systems where it stopped working after a recent update to the game. Problems caused by game updates can sometimes affect Proton compatibility, even when a title had previously worked without major issues.

Trove Public Test Server has received a similar correction. The game’s test version could fail to launch after a recent update, but the latest Proton Experimental build is intended to restore access.
These fixes show why Proton Experimental remains useful for people who play newer or frequently updated games on Linux. It is often the first branch to receive compatibility improvements before they move into more stable Proton releases.
Crysis 2 Remastered Ray Tracing Issue Is Fixed
The update also resolves a regression connected to Proton 11. Crysis 2 Remastered could hang while loading when ray tracing was turned on. That problem should now be fixed through the new Experimental build.
Ray tracing can place extra demands on a system, and compatibility issues around these features can prevent a game from launching correctly. The fix will be most relevant to desktop players with capable graphics cards, as the Steam Deck is not designed for demanding ray traced settings.
To use the update, open Steam, search for Proton Experimental, and install it if it is not already available in your library. You can then select it from a game’s Compatibility settings when needed.
