Valve has released Proton 11.0-2 as the latest stable update for its Windows compatibility layer, bringing a large collection of game fixes, regression repairs and component updates to SteamOS and Linux.
The update moves several improvements from Proton Experimental into the stable Proton 11 branch. It also makes nine additional games officially playable, including AsteroidsHD, Heroes of the Three Kingdoms 7, Portal Worlds and Warhammer: Dark Omen Classic.
If you already have Proton 11 installed, the new version should arrive through Steam's normal update system. You can also install Proton 11 manually through Steam if it is not already available on your system.
Several major games receive compatibility fixes
Proton 11.0-2 addresses recent problems affecting a wide selection of popular games. Diablo IV should now work again following a recent game update, while similar compatibility problems have been fixed in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Marvel Rivals and Helldivers 2.
Arc Raiders also receives a fix for an issue that prevented the game from running for some players.
Forza Horizon 4, Forza Horizon 5 and Forza Horizon 6 have received fixes for black screens appearing on recent SteamOS versions. Forza Horizon 6 should also stop automatically closing after a system suspend and resume cycle.
| Game or area | Proton 11.0-2 improvement |
|---|---|
| Diablo IV | Fixed compatibility after recent game update |
| Marvel Rivals | Fixed crashes after recent update |
| Helldivers 2 | Fixed failure to launch |
| Arc Raiders | Fixed launch problems for some players |
| Forza Horizon 4, 5 and 6 | Fixed black screens on recent SteamOS versions |
| Forza Horizon 6 | Fixed closing after suspend and resume |
| HITMAN World of Assassination | Fixed memory leak |
| Mirror's Edge Catalyst | Fixed freezes on systems without NVIDIA GPUs |
| Rocket League | Improved controller detection and locale compatibility |
Several older games and Proton 11 regressions are also covered. Command & Conquer titles should once again detect custom Steam Workshop levels correctly, while Terraria should no longer perform worse than it did under Proton 10.
Crysis 2 Remastered receives a fix for hanging during game loading when ray tracing is enabled. The King of Fighters XIII Global Match has a memory leak fix, while Homeworld 2 Classic should behave correctly when using Alt Tab.
Resident Evil 2 also receives a fix for low resolution fullscreen problems on certain high resolution displays.
Proton components receive major updates
Valve has also refreshed several technologies that form the foundation of Proton.
Wine Mono has been updated to version 11.2.0, while FEX moves to FEX 2607. DXVK has been updated to a newer Proton 11 support branch build, alongside updated versions of VKD3D Proton, VKD3D and DXVK NVAPI.

These components handle important parts of Windows game compatibility, including DirectX translation, .NET related software and other Windows APIs.
The update includes numerous smaller fixes covering audio, video playback, controller hotplugging, localization and rendering. Portal 2 gets an audio fix for 7.1 setups, while Dragon Quest Builders should no longer develop audio problems after the device wakes from suspend.
RPGMaker games should stop freezing after being minimized inside Gamescope, and Resident Evil 0 HD Remaster receives a fix for visual distortion in its pre rendered backgrounds.
Proton 11.0-2 is therefore a substantial maintenance release rather than a small compatibility update. For Steam Deck and Linux players, the combination of newly playable games, repaired regressions and fixes for recently updated titles should make Proton 11 a more reliable stable option across a wider range of games.
