S GAME has been building toward this project for years
Phantom Blade Zero is S GAME’s first full scale console title.
The studio’s history stretches back to the Rainblood series, beginning with Rainblood: Town of Death in 2010.
That game was followed by Rainblood 2: City of Flame in 2011 and Rainblood Chronicles: Mirage in 2013.
S GAME then shifted more heavily toward mobile development with Phantom Blade 1 and later entries in the series.

The most recent mobile release was Phantom Blade: Executioners in 2023.
Phantom Blade Zero represents a major step up in production scope, with the studio returning to PC while moving into the console market with a larger budget and 3D action RPG design.
The project was first planned in 2017 and entered full production in 2022.
Story follows Soul and a 66 day deadline
Phantom Blade Zero acts as a spiritual reboot of the earlier Rainblood games.
The protagonist, Soul, is accused of killing the leader of his clan.
After being saved from death by a healer, he is given only 66 days to uncover the truth before his heart stops.
That time limit forms a central part of the game’s story and gives the narrative a clear sense of urgency.
The game also allows side quests to influence the main storyline, which suggests that optional content may have consequences beyond additional rewards or experience.
Combat takes inspiration from several action games
Phantom Blade Zero first attracted widespread attention when it appeared during the PlayStation showcase in May 2023.
Its fast combat and martial arts focused animation immediately became one of the game’s main selling points.
The development team has previously pointed to games such as Ninja Gaiden, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Nioh as important influences.
Boss battles are expected to be a major part of the experience.
Playable builds shown over the past few years have also demonstrated that Phantom Blade Zero contains more RPG systems than its early trailers suggested.
That combination of fast action and deeper progression could help separate it from games that rely almost entirely on tightly scripted combat sequences.
New trailer will reveal more before launch
The August 11 preorder opening will be accompanied by another major trailer.
S GAME says the video will include new story material, additional characters and more combat footage.
The unexplained surprise is currently the biggest unknown.
It could involve a new gameplay system, an edition announcement or another part of the launch plan, but nothing has been confirmed.
With development now complete and the release date less than three months away, Phantom Blade Zero has entered the final stage of its launch campaign.
The October 29 release will be particularly important for S GAME because it marks the studio’s biggest move yet from mobile and smaller PC projects into the premium console market.
