Nintendo has scheduled The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for release on November 5, 2026, placing it just two weeks ahead of Grand Theft Auto VI.
Rockstar Games is currently set to launch GTA 6 on November 19 for Xbox Series X and Series S, while Nintendo's remake will arrive exclusively on Switch 2.
The two games are unlikely to compete directly in the traditional sense because they target different platforms and audiences, but their close release dates make November one of the busiest periods of 2026.
| Game | Release date | Platform focus |
|---|---|---|
| Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 | October 23, 2026 | Xbox and other major platforms |
| The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake | November 5, 2026 | Nintendo Switch 2 |
| Grand Theft Auto VI | November 19, 2026 | Xbox Series X and Series S, PS5 |
| Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee: Remastered | November 2026 | Multiple platforms |
| Gothic 3 Classic | November 2026 | Xbox Series X and Series S |
Nintendo Is Releasing Zelda Close to GTA 6
Many publishers have tried to avoid launching major games close to GTA 6 because of the attention expected around Rockstar's new release.
Nintendo is taking a different approach.
The Ocarina of Time remake will arrive 14 days before GTA 6, giving it a short window to establish itself before Rockstar's game reaches the market.
Nintendo also has an important advantage because GTA 6 is not currently announced for Switch 2.
That means players who own only Nintendo's console will not face a direct choice between the two games.
For people who own several platforms, however, the November schedule could create a difficult decision over which game to prioritize first.
Ocarina of Time Returns on Switch 2
The remake brings one of Nintendo's best known Zelda games to Switch 2 with updated visuals and modern presentation.
The original Ocarina of Time launched on Nintendo 64 in 1998 and later received an updated version on Nintendo 3DS.
The 2026 release is a more substantial remake designed specifically for Nintendo's newer hardware.
Nintendo has shown updated environments and character models, although the supplied information does not provide a full breakdown of every technical or gameplay change.
Its November 5 release also places it close to the time of year when the original game debuted, giving Nintendo another reason for choosing the date beyond GTA 6.
GTA 6 Still Has Little Major Xbox Competition
On Xbox, November remains relatively open around GTA 6.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled for October 23, giving it nearly a month before Rockstar's launch.

Other November releases include Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee: Remastered and Gothic 3 Classic, but neither is expected to compete with GTA 6 on the same commercial scale.
That gives Rockstar a relatively clear release window on Xbox Series X and Series S.
Publishers have spent much of 2026 adjusting schedules around GTA 6, which is expected to dominate attention when it launches.
The Games Target Different Audiences
Despite the close timing, Ocarina of Time and GTA 6 serve very different audiences.
Zelda is built around exploration, puzzles, combat, and fantasy adventure, while GTA 6 is an open world crime game aimed at a more mature audience.
Their hardware availability is also different.
Ocarina of Time is tied to Switch 2, while GTA 6 is currently planned for Xbox Series X and Series S and PlayStation 5.
There is no announced Switch 2 version of GTA 6.
That reduces the direct competition between the games compared with two major releases launching on the same systems.
November Could Still Be Expensive for Multiplatform Players
For players who own both Switch 2 and an Xbox or PlayStation console, the release calendar is much more crowded.
Ocarina of Time arrives on November 5, followed by GTA 6 on November 19.
Modern Warfare 4 will already have launched on October 23.
That means three major releases will arrive within less than four weeks.
For players interested in all three, time may become as significant a factor as price.
Large open world games can demand dozens of hours, so the short gap between Zelda and GTA 6 may affect how quickly people move from one game to another.
GTA 6 Arrives on November 19
GTA 6 remains scheduled for November 19, 2026 on Xbox Series X and Series S.
Rockstar has not announced a Switch 2 version.
Nintendo's decision to launch Ocarina of Time two weeks earlier therefore creates a notable release calendar overlap without setting up a direct platform battle.
The timing instead shows how confident Nintendo is in the strength of one of its most recognizable Zelda games, even during a month that many other publishers have tried to avoid because of GTA 6.
