Nvidia Says the RTX 5090 Is Not Discontinued, but One Amazon Seller Asks $8,999.99

Nvidia has not stopped making the GeForce RTX 5090. Jeff Fisher, the senior vice president who runs the company's PC business, said production continues and that Nvidia will keep shipping the card.

What he did not say is how many. The remark commits Nvidia to shipping its flagship, not to supplying it in volume.

What the Nvidia executive actually said

The comments came in a post-event interview on Friday, October 16, after an Nvidia launch event in Taipei for the recently reviewed RTX Spark platform. They have been reported in Chinese-language coverage, and Nvidia has published no statement of its own.

Fisher is quoted as saying the supply chain is "indeed somewhat constrained", and that Nvidia is doing everything it can to get the product to market. He is also quoted as saying that although there are other variants of the RTX 5090 chip, production "has indeed not stopped".

That is a narrow claim, and it is worth reading closely. It confirms the line is open and concedes capacity is tight.

It says nothing about output. It sets no figure for how many cards ship, no split of chips between gaming and professional boards, and no date for supply improving.

Nvidia's own page still reads $1,999

Nvidia put the RTX 5090 on sale on January 30 at $1,999, according to the company's launch announcement. The offer data on its current RTX 5090 product page still reads $1,999, in stock, sold by Nvidia.

The page also still carries the full spec sheet. That covers 21,760 CUDA cores, 32GB of GDDR7 on a 512-bit bus, and a 575W total graphics power rating.

Its buying options button still points at Nvidia's partner marketplace. The card has not been pulled from Nvidia's own retail funnel, even after Micro Center marked its RTX 5090 listings as not carried.

The near $9,000 prices come from one storefront

Two of the four RTX 5090 listings checked on Amazon still show a price, and the same third-party storefront holds both. An ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5090 White OC sits at $8,999.99, and a Gigabyte AORUS RTX 5090 Infinity at $8,599.99.

Both listings say "Only 3 left in stock". Both name M-X-C Tech as the shipper and seller rather than Amazon itself.

That makes the headline figure one reseller's asking price on six cards. The $8,999.99 listing runs $7,000.99 above Nvidia's published price, roughly four and a half times it.

The other two listings returned no price and no buy box at all on repeated checks. Those cards cannot be bought there at the moment, which leaves the two high asks as the only live prices.

ASUS sells one of its own cards for $4,799.99

ASUS lists the TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5090 32GB GDDR7 on its own US store at $4,799.99, marked in stock. That is $4,200.00 below what the Amazon storefront asks for ASUS's Astral model.

It is still $2,800 above the $1,999 Nvidia publishes. Nvidia sets no price for partner cards, so no official figure exists to measure an $8,999.99 Astral against.

Sellers have been charging well over launch prices for months, as the gap between Nvidia and AMD launch MSRPs and Newegg's prices showed. The maker's own store is now the cheapest place this card appears at all.

What Nvidia still has not said

Nvidia has published no production volume for the RTX 5090, no shipment figure and no allocation split between gaming and professional cards. It has not said when supply will loosen, and it has issued nothing in writing about any of this.

The denial covers the production line, and that is all it covers. Retail prices are set by sellers, and the ones above sit with a single marketplace storefront that can change them at any time.
