MSI has officially launched the Claw 8 EX AI Plus, one of the first gaming handhelds powered by Intel’s new Arc G3 Extreme platform. The device succeeds the Claw 8 AI Plus and brings a stronger Panther Lake based chip, Intel Arc B390 graphics, modern connectivity, and the same large 8 inch display format aimed at Windows handheld gaming.
The main upgrade is inside. MSI is using Intel’s Arc G3 Extreme processor, which combines up to 14 CPU cores with 12 Xe3 based GPU cores. That makes the Claw 8 EX AI Plus one of the more interesting handheld PCs of Computex 2026, especially because Intel is trying to prove that its new integrated graphics can compete more seriously in portable gaming systems.
The GPU side is handled by Intel Arc B390 graphics. MSI says this should deliver smooth gameplay without needing an external GPU, which is important for a handheld. A portable device only works well if the built in hardware can handle modern games at reasonable settings, because most people will not want to carry extra graphics hardware just to play.
The display is familiar rather than completely new. MSI is keeping an 8 inch FHD Plus screen with a 48Hz to 120Hz variable refresh rate range. It also supports VRR, which should help games feel smoother when frame rates shift. Brightness reaches up to 500 nits, and the IPS level panel should offer decent color reproduction for gaming indoors or in brighter environments.

Memory and storage are also in line with a premium handheld. The device supports up to 32GB of LPDDR5X memory and includes a single M.2 Gen 4 NVMe SSD slot. That should give buyers enough room for modern games, although the final experience will depend on storage capacity options and whether MSI makes upgrades easy.

The port selection is one of the stronger parts of the handheld. Two Thunderbolt 4 ports give the Claw 8 EX AI Plus more flexibility than many portable gaming devices. Players can connect displays, docks, storage, and other accessories more easily. A microSD card reader is also included for expandable storage, while the 3.5mm audio jack remains useful for wired headphones.
MSI has also included Wi Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, giving the handheld modern wireless support. That matters for cloud saves, downloads, wireless controllers, earbuds, and multiplayer gaming. The audio setup includes two 2W speakers with TD Audio processing and Hi Res audio support.
Battery capacity remains 80Wh, matching the current Claw 8 AI Plus. That is a good size for a handheld, but battery life will depend heavily on game settings, brightness, power mode, and how demanding the Arc G3 Extreme chip becomes under load. Weight is also nearly unchanged, with the new model reportedly only 10 grams lighter than its predecessor.
The biggest question is pricing. MSI has not officially confirmed the final price, but reports point to a possible $1,499 tag. That would place the Claw 8 EX AI Plus firmly in the premium handheld category. At that price, buyers will expect strong performance, good battery behavior, reliable software, and a polished Windows gaming experience.
The Claw 8 EX AI Plus arrives at a competitive moment for handheld PCs. Asus, Acer, OneXPlayer, Lenovo, and Valve all have different approaches to portable gaming. MSI’s advantage here is that it is one of the first brands moving quickly with Intel’s Arc G3 Extreme hardware.
The device looks promising on paper, especially for players who want a large screen, strong integrated graphics, Thunderbolt 4 expansion, and modern wireless support. But the real test will come from performance reviews. Intel’s new handheld platform needs to prove it can deliver stable frame rates, efficient power use, and better value than AMD based rivals.
For now, the MSI Claw 8 EX AI Plus gives Intel a serious new showcase in handheld gaming. It is not a cheap device, and it does not radically change the display or battery formula, but its Arc G3 Extreme chip could make it one of the most important Windows handheld launches of 2026.
