Mortal Shell 2 Runs at 60 FPS on Xbox Series X and Series S With Some Resolution Differences

Mortal Shell 2 is now available to Devout Edition owners on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, with the full release scheduled for August 20, 2026. Early comparisons show that both consoles offer Quality and Performance modes, with Xbox Series X targeting a higher output resolution while Series S makes larger compromises.

The game has also received strong early reviews, with a Metacritic score of 84 at the time of reporting.

Xbox Series X Targets 4K in Both Modes

On Xbox Series X, Mortal Shell 2 is said to output at 2160p in both Quality and Performance modes, although the internal rendering resolution is believed to be lower.

Performance mode runs close to a stable 60 FPS. Small drops can occur, but the overall experience appears consistent.

Quality mode targets 30 FPS and holds that target well. There are also occasional moments where the frame rate can rise to around 42 FPS.

Xbox Series S Keeps the Same Two Graphics Modes

Xbox Series S also gives you both Performance and Quality options.

The main difference is resolution. The Series S version is believed to output at 1080p, again with an internal resolution that can sit below the final output.

Performance mode aims for 60 FPS and generally gets close to that target. It appears slightly less consistent than the Series X version, with a few more small frame drops, but the difference is not described as severe.

Quality mode is much more stable, running at 30 FPS without notable problems.

Series X Has the Clear Visual Advantage

The biggest difference between the two consoles is resolution rather than frame rate.

Xbox Series X benefits from the higher 2160p output target, which should provide a sharper image on larger 4K displays. Series S drops to a 1080p output but still preserves the same basic graphics mode structure.

That means players on Series S do not lose access to the 60 FPS Performance mode, which is arguably the more important feature for an action RPG built around precise combat.

The difference is therefore more about visual clarity than overall playability.

Both Versions Appear to Perform Well

Based on the available testing, Mortal Shell 2 appears to be in good shape on both Xbox consoles.

Series X offers the stronger image quality while maintaining an almost solid 60 FPS in Performance mode. Series S has to settle for a lower resolution, but it still delivers a near 60 FPS option and a stable 30 FPS Quality mode.

For most players, Performance mode is likely to be the more attractive choice because of the smoother combat, while Quality mode remains available for those who prefer a more consistent visual presentation.

Mortal Shell 2 launches fully on August 20, 2026 for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
