Modern Warfare 4 Carry Over Is Limited, but COD Points and 2XP Tokens Will Transfer

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will largely reset progression when it launches, with most Black Ops 7 weapons, operators, blueprints and camos staying behind.

There are a few exceptions. Unspent 2XP tokens will transfer into the new game, and COD Points will also carry over as long as you remain on the same platform.

A small number of preorder rewards will also move forward, including the Hunter Killer operator and two universal camos tied to Modern Warfare 4 preorders.

Modern Warfare 4 starts most progression from zero

Modern Warfare 4 is being developed separately from Black Ops 7, and Activision is not carrying most multiplayer progression into the new release.

That means your unlocked weapons, attachments, weapon levels, blueprints and standard camos from Black Ops 7 will not be available in Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer.

Operators and their cosmetic content will also stay behind in the main game.

This gives Modern Warfare 4 a cleaner progression reset, with players beginning from the same starting point instead of bringing large inventories from the previous release.

The main exceptions are preorder related rewards specifically designed to work across both games.

The Hunter Killer operator and two universal camos offered to Black Ops 7 players who preorder Modern Warfare 4 will remain available when the new game launches.

Saving 2XP tokens could be useful

Unspent 2XP tokens will transfer to Modern Warfare 4.

If you plan to move to the new game at launch, holding onto some of those tokens could make early progression faster.

Modern Warfare 4's full Prestige system has not yet been detailed, but the game will include another substantial leveling process. Starting with a collection of saved XP boosts could help reduce some of the early grind.

COD Points also carry forward, but they remain tied to the platform where they were purchased.

For example, COD Points bought through one platform's store generally cannot be transferred to a different platform storefront.

That distinction matters if you are planning to switch from one console family to another or move between console and PC.

Warzone will continue to handle older content differently

Warzone is expected to remain the main exception to the reset.

Traditionally, weapons from previous Call of Duty releases remain usable in Warzone after integration with a new annual game.

That includes weapon blueprints, unlocked camos, operators and operator skins.

Black Ops 7 content is therefore expected to remain available in Warzone after the battle royale shifts to Modern Warfare 4 content.

Because Black Ops 7 is still the current Call of Duty release, it would be unusual for its content to disappear immediately from Warzone.

You can continue unlocking Black Ops 7 Battle Pass rewards or buying compatible cosmetic items if Warzone remains part of your regular play.

Warzone integration is expected later

There is no confirmed date yet for the Modern Warfare 4 Warzone integration.

The current expectation is around mid November, likely after the final Black Ops 7 season comes to an end.

That timing would follow the usual pattern of launching the premium Call of Duty game first and moving Warzone to the new content cycle later.

Modern Warfare 4 itself launches on October 23, 2026.

Digital preorder customers will receive campaign early access beginning October 16.

The game will not launch on Xbox Game Pass. Based on Microsoft's previous position, it is not expected to arrive on the service until October 2027 at the earliest.

For players preparing to move from Black Ops 7, the practical approach is simple. Most multiplayer unlocks will stay behind, while saved 2XP tokens, same platform COD Points and a small group of preorder rewards will make the transition.
