Modern Warfare 4 Campaign Early Access Starts October 16 for Digital Preorders

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will open its campaign early access period on October 16, 2026, one week before the full game launches.

Early access will be available on Xbox Series X and S, PS5, Xbox on PC, Steam, Battle.net and Nintendo Switch. However, you will need to preorder a digital copy of the game to qualify.

Only the campaign will be playable during the early access period. Multiplayer and the returning DMZ mode will remain locked until the full launch on October 23.

Digital preorders are required for early access

The campaign early access period is tied specifically to digital preorders.

Both the Standard Edition and Vault Edition qualify, so you do not need to buy the more expensive version just to play the campaign early.

You can preorder digitally through the store associated with your platform, including Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, Battle.net and Nintendo.

Physical copies do not provide the same benefit. Retail discs are expected to ship around the general release date, which means buying a boxed copy will not give you access on October 16.

This makes the early campaign period mainly useful for players who already plan to buy Modern Warfare 4 digitally.

Only the campaign opens on October 16

Early access does not include the full game.

Multiplayer, DMZ and other launch content will remain unavailable until October 23.

That gives you one week to complete or make significant progress through the campaign before the multiplayer progression grind begins.

For players who usually prioritize multiplayer, finishing the story during that week can be useful because it keeps campaign progress separate from the launch period when multiplayer servers become active.

The Modern Warfare 4 beta has already concluded, so campaign early access is the next opportunity to play the game before launch.

Multiplayer and DMZ arrive October 23

Modern Warfare 4 officially launches on October 23, 2026.

That is when multiplayer and the returning DMZ mode become available.

The release will cover the same major platforms as campaign early access, including Xbox Series X and S, PS5, PC storefronts and Nintendo Switch.

Warzone integration will happen later rather than on launch day.

Activision has not confirmed an exact Warzone integration date, but it is expected to happen alongside Season 1 several weeks after release.

Current estimates place that transition around November 12, although that date remains unconfirmed.

Game Pass will not include Modern Warfare 4 at launch

Unlike Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7, Modern Warfare 4 will not launch through Xbox Game Pass.

That means a Game Pass subscription will not provide campaign early access or full launch access.

The only way to enter the October 16 campaign period is through an eligible digital preorder.

Modern Warfare 4 is not currently expected to join Game Pass until October 2027 at the earliest.

If you already plan to buy the game digitally, campaign early access gives you a full week to play through the story before multiplayer and DMZ open on October 23.
