Microsoft appears to be changing Xbox branding to XBOX

Microsoft appears to be testing a small but noticeable change to its gaming brand, with Xbox now being styled as XBOX in some official places. The change follows a social media poll from Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, where most voters preferred the all caps version.

The poll asked people to choose between “Xbox” and “XBOX.” Nearly 20,000 people voted, and 64.8 percent chose XBOX. At first, it looked like a simple community engagement post, but Microsoft now seems to be taking the result seriously.

The Xbox account on X has already changed its name to XBOX and uses the @XBOX handle. Sharma also highlighted the change and now describes herself as CEO of XBOX on her profile. However, the shift is not yet complete across Microsoft’s online presence. The Xbox website and other social platforms still appear to use the regular Xbox styling.

This looks more like a brand restyling than a full rebrand. Microsoft is not changing the name, logo concept, or gaming identity. It is only changing the way the name is written in some places. That makes the move smaller than a traditional rebrand, though it will still catch attention because Xbox has used its familiar capitalization for years.

The move also fits Microsoft’s recent effort to refresh Xbox under Sharma’s leadership. Since taking over, she has responded to Game Pass pricing concerns, removed Gaming Copilot integration, and started previews for a new startup experience. The XBOX styling may be another attempt to make the brand feel more direct and community shaped.

Still, changing brand style based on a social media poll could divide opinion. Some fans may like the stronger look of XBOX, while others may see it as unnecessary. Corporate branding usually depends on long term consistency, so even a small capitalization change can feel bigger than it looks.

There is one reason the change may not feel too strange. Microsoft has already used XBOX styling on some physical console packaging, so the all caps version is not entirely new. The real question is whether Microsoft plans to roll it out everywhere or keep it limited to selected social and marketing spaces.

For now, Xbox is not becoming a new brand. It is still Microsoft’s gaming division. But if the XBOX styling continues to spread, this could become the company’s next quiet branding shift for its gaming business.
