Remedy Entertainment has confirmed that Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake is still in full production, but the studio is not ready to share more about the project because Rockstar Games controls the publishing side.
The clarification came alongside Remedy’s latest financial update. While the developer confirmed that work is continuing, it did not provide a release date, new footage or a more detailed development milestone.
That means future announcements will depend largely on Rockstar’s marketing plans rather than Remedy’s own communication schedule.
Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake status

The remake entered full production in 2024, so development has now been underway at that stage for roughly two years.
Remedy says Rockstar controls publishing communication
During a question and answer session following its earnings report, Remedy investor relations manager Aapo Kilpinen explained that Rockstar Games is responsible for the publishing side of the project.
That limits what Remedy can discuss publicly.
The studio therefore declined to answer several questions about the remake, even though interest in the project remains high.
This also explains why Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake has received relatively few public updates despite being one of Remedy’s most anticipated upcoming games.
No reason yet to assume development problems
The lack of new information does not currently indicate that the remake is in trouble.
Remedy continues to list it as being in full production, which is the most important official status update available.
There has been no announced delay, cancellation or major development setback.
A 2027 release has been suggested based on the project’s production timeline, but Remedy and Rockstar have not confirmed that window.
It is therefore safer to treat 2027 as a possibility rather than a firm expectation.
Rockstar may favor a shorter marketing campaign
Rockstar has historically preferred relatively controlled marketing periods for many of its projects.
That could mean Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake receives a more substantial reveal closer to launch rather than years in advance.
The situation is also complicated by GTA 6, which is likely to dominate Rockstar’s promotional activity around its launch period.
Even so, Max Payne serves a different audience and is a much smaller project in commercial scale, so Rockstar could still begin promoting it once the timing is right.
Remedy is developing the remake alongside other projects
Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake is one of several major projects currently involving Remedy.
The studio is also working on CONTROL Resonant, which is taking the Control series in a more action focused direction.

That makes the Max Payne remake an important collaboration rather than Remedy’s only active production.
The project combines the first two Max Payne games into a remake package, with Remedy handling development and Rockstar responsible for publishing.
More information depends on Rockstar
For now, the biggest update is that development continues and the remake remains in full production.
Remedy appears unable to provide significant new information until Rockstar is ready to begin a broader marketing campaign.
There is still no release date or new gameplay footage, and a 2027 launch remains unconfirmed.
Until Rockstar decides to reveal more, Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake is likely to remain relatively quiet despite steady development behind the scenes.
