Marvel’s Wolverine appears to make strong use of the PlayStation 5 Pro’s extra graphics hardware, with advanced ray tracing producing only a small performance penalty in early comparisons.
Testing shows that enabling the game’s Advanced RT mode on PS5 Pro reduces performance by roughly 3 to 4 frames per second. That is a relatively small loss given the added reflection and global illumination effects.
The console can also reach close to 100 FPS in Performance mode when Unlimited VRR is enabled, although actual results depend on the scene and display setup.

PS5 Pro gains a clear image quality advantage
The biggest difference between the standard PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro comes from image reconstruction and ray tracing.
The Pro model uses PSSR upscaling, which helps produce a sharper final image from a lower internal rendering resolution. That is especially useful in Performance mode, where the game can drop as low as around 1080p internally before reconstruction.
Fidelity mode operates at a higher internal resolution range, reaching up to 2160p in some situations.
The Advanced RT mode adds stronger reflections and more detailed global illumination effects. These changes are easier to notice in environments with reflective surfaces, complex lighting and dense geometry.
Because the frame rate loss is only a few FPS in the tested scenarios, turning Advanced RT off may offer limited benefit on PS5 Pro.
Performance mode can reach high frame rates with VRR
Marvel’s Wolverine also supports a Performance mode that can take advantage of variable refresh rate displays.
With Unlimited VRR enabled, frame rates can reportedly climb toward 100 FPS in lighter scenes.
That does not mean the game runs at 100 FPS at all times. Performance can change depending on combat, environmental complexity and ray tracing workload.
Still, the result shows that the PS5 Pro has enough headroom to run the game at high frame rates while keeping advanced visual features active.
The standard PS5 also offers multiple display modes, but the Pro version benefits from better reconstruction quality and stronger ray tracing performance.
Advanced RT may be the better choice on PS5 Pro
Normally, disabling demanding ray tracing features can be an easy way to improve performance.
In this case, the reported 3 to 4 FPS difference makes that choice less obvious.
If your display supports VRR, the small reduction may be difficult to notice during normal gameplay. The added lighting and reflection quality could therefore make Advanced RT the preferred setting for many PS5 Pro owners.

The balance between visual quality and performance will still depend on personal preference, particularly for players who prioritize the highest possible frame rate.
Marvel’s Wolverine also provides another example of how the PS5 Pro handles ray tracing more comfortably than the base console. Its upgraded GPU and image reconstruction system allow developers to push more demanding effects without giving up as much performance.
That will likely become increasingly important as more current generation games rely on ray traced reflections, lighting and global illumination.
For Marvel’s Wolverine, the early results suggest that Insomniac has managed to use those features without creating a major performance penalty on the Pro hardware.
