Marvel’s Wolverine finally has a release date. Insomniac Games has confirmed that the long awaited PlayStation 5 exclusive will launch on September 15, 2026, after showing a new extended gameplay trailer during Sony’s State of Play presentation.
The game was first announced in 2021, and fans have been waiting years to see how Insomniac would handle Logan after its success with Spider-Man. The new footage makes one thing clear: this is not Spider-Man with claws. Wolverine is being presented as a much darker, bloodier, and more violent superhero game, which fits the character far better.
The story takes place in the same universe as Insomniac’s Spider-Man games, but the tone is very different. Mutants are living in fear, hiding from groups that hunt them while most of society remains unaware of their existence. Logan is pulled back into Team X, a mutant task force he left three years earlier, as the situation around mutants becomes more dangerous.
The trailer also confirms that Wolverine will not be alone. Jean Grey, Mystique, and Sabertooth are part of the story, and the footage even shows Logan teaming up with Jean during combat. Her telekinetic powers appear to support Wolverine’s brutal close range attacks, creating combo moments that could make battles feel more cinematic and tactical.

Combat looks fast, aggressive, and built around Logan’s healing factor. Players can attack, parry, and kill enemies while taking damage, with Wolverine healing as the fight continues. If he is pushed too far, he can unleash a more animalistic side, giving him a major advantage in battle.
That system sounds like a smart way to capture the character. Wolverine is not a clean fighter. He is durable, angry, and relentless. A combat loop built around absorbing punishment and pushing forward could make the game feel very different from other superhero titles.

The new trailer also suggests that Insomniac is leaning into the emotional side of Logan’s story. The studio describes the game as an original story about survival in a hostile world. That gives the game room to explore mutant fear, loyalty, violence, identity, and Logan’s struggle to protect people even when he is not sure he belongs with them.
The Team X angle also opens the door for a wider mutant story. Wolverine is often at his best when he is caught between being a weapon and being a protector. Bringing him back to a task force he once left gives Insomniac a strong setup for conflict, both with enemies and with Logan’s own past.
Pre orders are opening with several bonuses. Players who pre order will get the classic brown suit, reflective claws, one extra ability point, and four PlayStation avatars. The standard edition is priced at $69.99, while the Digital Deluxe edition costs $79.99 and includes extra in game benefits. A physical special edition has not been announced yet.
The long wait has raised expectations, but this latest showing gives Marvel’s Wolverine a much clearer identity. It looks violent, focused, and more grounded in mutant survival than broad superhero spectacle.
Insomniac already proved it can build a strong Marvel game with Spider-Man. Wolverine now gives the studio a chance to show a different side of that universe. If the final game delivers on the trailer’s promise, September 2026 could give PlayStation one of its biggest and most mature superhero releases yet.
