Intel Reportedly Moves 12 Core Xe3P Desktop Graphics From Nova Lake to Razor Lake

Intel has reportedly changed its desktop graphics plans, moving a larger 12 core Xe3P integrated GPU configuration from Nova Lake S to the later Razor Lake S processor family.

Earlier reports suggested that some Nova Lake desktop processors would combine next generation CPU cores with a substantially larger Xe3P integrated GPU. According to newer information, that specific 12 core graphics configuration will no longer appear in the standard Nova Lake S lineup.

Instead, Intel is said to be saving it for Razor Lake S, which is expected to follow Nova Lake and continue using the same LGA 1954 platform.

Nova Lake desktop reportedly loses the larger Xe3P option

The biggest change concerns desktop Nova Lake S processors.

Previous information pointed to a model with 12 Xe3P graphics cores, but that configuration is now reportedly cancelled for the standard desktop family.

Four core integrated GPU configurations are instead expected to use Xe3 technology.

This does not mean Xe3P has disappeared from Nova Lake entirely.

Mobile processors are still expected to use Xe3P graphics with several configurations, including 2, 4 and 12 graphics cores.

That suggests Intel is separating its graphics strategy more clearly between desktop and mobile products.

Razor Lake could become the stronger integrated graphics platform

The larger 12 core Xe3P configuration is now expected to arrive with Razor Lake S.

Razor Lake is reportedly planned for roughly a year after Nova Lake and is expected to retain compatibility with the LGA 1954 socket.

That would give Intel a multi generation desktop platform while allowing it to introduce a stronger integrated graphics option without adding it late in the Nova Lake product cycle.

The change may make sense from a scheduling perspective because the 12 core Nova Lake S graphics configuration was already expected to arrive later than the main Nova Lake desktop processors.

Moving it into Razor Lake gives Intel an opportunity to pair newer CPU architecture with a higher performance integrated GPU in the same generation.

Larger integrated graphics could require much faster memory

A 12 core Xe3P integrated GPU would need substantial memory bandwidth to deliver its full performance.

Integrated graphics share system memory rather than using dedicated graphics memory, making DDR and LPDDR speeds particularly important.

Nova Lake S is already expected to improve DDR5 memory support, while Razor Lake may push supported speeds further.

Mobile platforms are also expected to use faster memory, with reports pointing to 8000 MT/s CSO DIMMs and LPDDR speeds beyond the 9600 MT/s level associated with Panther Lake.

Those improvements could be important if Intel wants a larger integrated GPU to compete with increasingly capable integrated graphics from rivals.

Earlier Nova Lake configuration reportedly required significant power

The cancelled Nova Lake S configuration with 12 Xe3P graphics cores was reportedly planned with a graphics tile consuming as much as 40W.

The associated processor was expected to feature up to 16 CPU cores with a package power limit reaching around 154W at PL2.

That would have made it an unusual desktop design, combining a relatively powerful integrated GPU with a mainstream socketed processor.

Moving that design concept to Razor Lake may allow Intel more time to improve power efficiency, memory bandwidth and platform support.

Nova Lake Edge may still keep 12 Xe3P cores

One area remains uncertain.

Nova Lake Edge, a separate product segment, has previously been associated with a design using eight efficiency cores and 12 Xe3P graphics cores.

Because that product is not part of the normal Nova Lake S desktop family, the reported desktop change may not affect it.

There is currently no clear information confirming whether Nova Lake Edge will keep or lose the larger graphics configuration.

Nova Lake desktop launch is now expected in 2027

Intel has not officially announced the full Nova Lake lineup.

The company has discussed the architecture publicly, but many details currently circulating come from preliminary partner information and leaks.

Nova Lake was previously associated with a second half of 2026 launch, but more recent reports point toward the first half of 2027 for desktop models.

If the latest information is accurate, Nova Lake S will arrive without the previously expected 12 core Xe3P integrated GPU, while Razor Lake S will inherit that design later.

The change would give Intel a clearer generational split, with Nova Lake focusing on the initial platform transition and Razor Lake adding a more ambitious integrated graphics configuration afterward.
