Ikea Brings a Talking Kallax Shelf to Skyrim With an Official Mod

Ikea has released an officially licensed Skyrim mod that turns its well known Kallax shelving unit into a sentient companion voiced by actor Matt Berry.

The free mod, called Kallax Storageborn, adds the furniture brand to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim through a new quest, themed equipment and storage focused mechanics.

The project was developed by Kinggath Creations and gives players a practical reason to bring the Kallax into the game because it can help carry the large amount of loot collected while exploring Skyrim.

The Kallax becomes a storage companion

The main feature of the mod is the Kallax itself.

After beginning the quest, you eventually gain access to your own Kallax Storageborn, which acts as a highly capable storage companion.

It can collect loot, help organize items and be summoned through a new Thu'um.

That gives the mod a practical gameplay function rather than making it purely cosmetic.

Anyone who regularly becomes overburdened while exploring Skyrim should understand the appeal immediately. Inventory management has always been an important part of the game, especially for players who collect weapons, armor, crafting materials and miscellaneous objects.

The Kallax provides a humorous solution to that problem.

Matt Berry gives the shelf a personality

Actor Matt Berry provides the voice for the sentient shelving unit.

Berry is best known for roles including What We Do in the Shadows and has a distinctive delivery that fits the strange tone of the mod.

His involvement helps turn the Kallax from a simple storage object into a proper character that can accompany the Dragonborn across Skyrim.

The concept deliberately mixes Ikea's familiar furniture identity with Skyrim's fantasy setting.

The mod includes Ikea themed gear and quests

Kallax Storageborn also adds several joke items.

One is the Allenblade, a weapon inspired by the Allen keys included with flat pack furniture.

Another is the Meatball Helmet, which references Ikea's well known food offering.

The adventure sends players into two Ikea inspired caves and includes a storyline involving a long abandoned Dwemer trading post.

The quest also builds its story around disorder and clutter, fitting the storage theme.

According to the mod description, players can continue using the Kallax while completing normal Skyrim activities, including fighting Alduin, joining major factions or simply exploring the world.

Ikea continues experimenting with gaming

The mod follows other recent moves by Ikea into the gaming space.

The company has already worked with Xbox on gaming focused furniture, and Kallax Storageborn takes that involvement directly into a game.

It is an unusual form of brand collaboration because the mod does more than place a recognizable product inside Skyrim.

The Kallax has its own voice, gameplay purpose and quest content.

Kallax Storageborn is available now through Skyrim Creations and can be downloaded for free.
