Hideo Kojima has addressed growing speculation surrounding Physint and Kojima Productions' split with Sony, saying several claims circulating online are unsupported while confirming that development is moving forward with Xbox.
The comments add more context to the unexpected change in direction for Physint, which was originally being developed with PlayStation support before Sony stepped away from the project.
Kojima has already said that Sony informed him of the decision during a Zoom call in June, leaving him unsure about the project's immediate future. He has now clarified that many of the explanations being discussed online did not come from official or on the record sources.
Kojima asks fans to treat speculation carefully
Kojima Productions issued a statement after reports and online discussions began connecting the Physint decision with the commercial performance of Death Stranding, production costs and wider investment concerns.
The studio said those claims had extended beyond ordinary speculation and were affecting fans, development partners and people who had worked with the company over several decades.
| Topic | Current position |
|---|---|
| Physint status | Still in development |
| Current partner | Xbox |
| Sony relationship | Remains intact |
| Kojima Productions | Described as healthy and profitable |
| Engine | Not yet selected |
| Xbox support | New technology and technical assistance |
| Online cancellation claims | Not officially confirmed |
Kojima urged people to approach those reports with caution because the claims were not based on official statements.
The studio also reassured fans that its financial position remains healthy and that the Physint project is continuing.
Xbox is providing substantial technical support
Kojima also spoke positively about the technology and engineering support now available through Microsoft.
He jokingly compared the number of technical experts helping the studio to having many versions of Doc Brown from Back to the Future around him.
The remark suggests Kojima Productions is gaining access to technology and expertise that could shape how Physint is eventually built.
The exact systems involved have not been explained, so it is too early to say how Microsoft's technology will influence graphics, simulation, artificial intelligence or other parts of the game.
Still, Kojima appears enthusiastic about experimenting with the tools available under the new partnership.
Physint still does not have a final engine
One of the biggest technical decisions remains unresolved.
Kojima says the studio has not yet selected the engine that will power Physint.
Kojima Productions previously used Guerrilla's Decima Engine for Death Stranding and Death Stranding 2.
That relationship was closely connected to Sony, making continued use of Decima less certain after Physint moved to Xbox.
Unreal Engine has been discussed as one possible alternative, but no decision has been confirmed.
Choosing a new engine would affect large parts of development, including rendering, tools, animation systems, workflows and production pipelines.
The fact that the decision is still open indicates the project remains at a stage where major technical foundations are being evaluated.
Sony and Kojima Productions are not in a public dispute
Despite the circumstances surrounding Physint, Kojima continues to reject the idea that his company is fighting with Sony.
He previously said he would have preferred more notice before Sony ended its involvement because of their roughly 30 year relationship.
That criticism concerned communication rather than hostility between the two companies.
The latest statement reinforces that position.
Kojima Productions says its relationship with PlayStation remains strong, even though Physint is no longer being developed under Sony's backing.
That distinction is important because the studio still has a long history with PlayStation and recently released major projects connected to Sony platforms.
Physint continues under a different technical direction
The main change is now clear.
Physint survived the end of Sony's involvement and is moving ahead with Xbox providing funding, technical support and infrastructure.

The studio is still determining which engine will form the game's foundation, and development appears to be evolving as the new partnership takes shape.
Kojima's latest comments are also an attempt to separate confirmed facts from theories about why Sony left the project.
For now, the confirmed picture is simpler: Sony stepped away, Xbox took over support, Kojima Productions says it remains financially healthy, and Physint continues development while its core technology is still being decided.
