Rockstar Games still has not announced when Grand Theft Auto VI will arrive on PC, but the company’s past release patterns suggest PC players could be waiting roughly a year after the console launch.
GTA 6 is scheduled to release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S. A Windows version is widely expected later, but neither Rockstar nor Take Two has provided a date.
Looking at Rockstar’s recent history, a late 2027 PC launch appears plausible, although a release sometime in 2028 cannot be ruled out.
| Rockstar game | Console release | PC release | Approximate gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| L.A. Noire | May 2011 | November 2011 | 6 months |
| Grand Theft Auto V | September 2013 | April 2015 | 1 year, 7 months |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | October 2018 | November 2019 | 1 year, 1 month |
| GTA 6 | November 19, 2026 | Not announced | Likely 2027 or 2028 |
Rockstar usually brings its biggest games to PC later
Delayed PC releases are normal for Rockstar.
Grand Theft Auto V took around 19 months to move from consoles to PC, while Red Dead Redemption 2 took approximately 13 months. L.A. Noire arrived considerably faster, with a six month gap.
Using those examples, GTA 6 could reasonably arrive between late 2027 and late 2028.
A release near the end of 2027 would fit particularly well with Rockstar’s previous pattern. It would give the studio about a year to fix launch problems, improve performance and prepare the game for the much wider variety of PC hardware configurations.
GTA 6 could take longer because of its scale
The size of GTA 6 may work against a quick PC release.
The game has reportedly been in development for many years and is expected to be far more technically demanding than Rockstar’s previous open world titles.
That complexity matters on PC because developers need to account for a much broader range of CPUs, graphics cards, memory configurations and storage setups than they do on consoles.
Rockstar will also need to spend time addressing bugs and performance problems after the initial console launch.
If the console release requires extensive post launch work, the PC version could move deeper into 2028.
Rockstar already has years of PC engine experience
There are also reasons to expect a faster transition.
GTA 6 uses Rockstar’s RAGE engine, which has been used across several major games, including GTA IV, GTA V, Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2.
Rockstar therefore has considerable experience optimizing this technology for Windows.
Modern games are also developed with cross platform support in mind from the beginning. Even if the PC version launches later, it is unlikely that work on it begins only after the console edition ships.
That should reduce the amount of time required to prepare the Windows release.
Commercial pressure favors an earlier PC launch
Money is another important factor.
GTA 6 is expected to become one of the biggest entertainment releases of the decade, and the PC audience represents a significant source of additional sales.
Waiting too long would risk losing some of the launch momentum surrounding the game.

Rockstar may also want the PC version available relatively early so it can support the next version of GTA Online, which is likely to become a major long term source of revenue.
A late 2027 launch would provide enough separation for console sales while still keeping the PC release close enough to benefit from the game’s wider popularity.
Expensive PC hardware could complicate the timing
The PC hardware market may also influence the decision.
Rising prices for RAM, graphics cards and storage are making high end gaming systems more expensive. If GTA 6 requires powerful hardware, a later release could mean fewer people are ready to run it well.
That creates an argument for getting the PC version out sooner rather than later, although there is no confirmed evidence that Rockstar is adjusting its schedule because of hardware prices.
The game is expected to be demanding. Reports indicate the console versions are targeting 30 FPS at launch, including on more powerful hardware.
That suggests the PC version may require substantial hardware for high resolutions, higher frame rates and advanced visual settings.
Late 2027 looks like the strongest estimate for now
Based on Rockstar’s previous release gaps, the maturity of the RAGE engine and the commercial value of the PC market, late 2027 currently looks like the most reasonable estimate.
An October to December 2027 window would give Rockstar close to a year after the console launch while placing the PC version in the important holiday sales period.
However, this remains speculation.
Rockstar has not announced a GTA 6 PC release date, and the actual schedule will likely depend on the stability of the console launch, optimization work and the development of GTA Online.
For now, PC players should expect to wait beyond November 2026, with late 2027 standing out as a realistic possibility rather than a confirmed release window.
