GTA 6 May Offer a 60 FPS Mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X, but It Could Arrive After Launch

Grand Theft Auto VI may include a 60 FPS performance mode on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, according to a new rumor. The option is reportedly still being developed and may not be ready when the game launches, meaning it could arrive later through a post launch update.

The claim comes from a single source cited by a Polish gaming podcast, so it should be treated as unconfirmed. Rockstar Games has not announced performance targets, graphics modes, or PS5 Pro enhancements for Grand Theft Auto VI.

Still, the possibility of a 60 FPS mode would be significant. Rockstar’s major open world games have traditionally targeted 30 FPS on consoles, particularly at launch, due to their large environments, crowds, simulation systems, lighting, and visual detail.

PS5 and Xbox Series X Could Offer Two Graphics Modes

The rumor suggests that PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions may include separate quality and performance modes. One would target 30 FPS with higher visual settings, while another would aim for 60 FPS with some graphical compromises.

ConsoleRumored performance target
PlayStation 530 FPS and possible 60 FPS modes
Xbox Series X30 FPS and possible 60 FPS modes
Xbox Series S30 FPS currently expected
PlayStation 5 ProNo official details confirmed

A 60 FPS mode would likely require Rockstar to reduce demanding features. Ray traced reflections, draw distance, traffic density, lighting quality, shadows, or resolution could be scaled back to maintain smoother gameplay.

This would be similar to many current generation console games, where players choose between better graphics at 30 FPS and more responsive gameplay at 60 FPS.

Xbox Series S May Remain Limited to 30 FPS

The report claims that Xbox Series S is currently expected to target 30 FPS. The console has less graphics power and memory than PS5 and Xbox Series X, making a stable 60 FPS mode far more difficult for a game as ambitious as GTA 6.

There is reportedly work underway to improve performance on Series S, but that does not guarantee a higher frame rate option. Rockstar may decide that a stable 30 FPS experience is the best way to preserve the game’s world detail and visual features on the lower powered console.

The Series S version could still receive visual adjustments that keep it close to the other console editions, but it may need lower resolution, reduced effects, or simplified environmental detail.

A 60 FPS Mode Would Be a Major Technical Achievement

GTA 6 is expected to feature a highly detailed version of Vice City, advanced character animation, dense traffic, large crowds, dynamic weather, and improved lighting. Recent screenshots have also shown detailed reflections and environments that appear to use modern rendering techniques.

Running a world of that scale at 60 FPS on base consoles would be difficult. The CPU could be just as important as the GPU, since open world games depend on simulation, AI, streaming, physics, and background activity.

That may explain why Rockstar has not confirmed a performance mode yet. The studio could still be testing whether it can hold a consistent 60 FPS without harming the game’s visual quality or world complexity.

Rockstar Has Not Confirmed Any Console Settings

For now, GTA 6 performance details remain rumor only. A 60 FPS option may be available at launch, may arrive later, or may never appear on all systems.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. Rockstar will likely reveal more about console graphics modes, resolution targets, and PS5 Pro enhancements closer to release.
