Gamescom 2026 is shaping up to be the largest edition of the event so far, with organizers confirming that the full exhibition space has sold out for the first time in its history.
The event will bring together more than 1,600 exhibitors, with around 70 percent coming from outside Germany. That is slightly higher than the 1,568 exhibitors recorded in 2025.
International participation also remains strong, with companies and organizations representing 67 countries. The event will include 47 country pavilions covering 40 nations, up from 40 pavilions and 35 countries last year.
The total exhibition area reaches 233,000 square meters, and every available space has now been booked.
Gamescom 2026 breaks several event records
The stronger exhibitor presence is being matched by high demand from visitors.
Wildcard tickets and Saturday tickets have already sold out before the event begins.
The indie section is also growing significantly, with more than 420 companies expected to participate. That represents an increase of around 16 percent compared with the 364 companies that took part in 2025.

Opening Night Live returns on August 25
Gamescom week will once again include a large amount of online programming.
Opening Night Live is scheduled for Tuesday, August 25 at 8 PM CEST and is expected to feature announcements, trailers, and updates from across the gaming industry.
Other planned broadcasts include the Awesome Indies showcase, the Gamescom studio, and a new charity speedrunning event called Gamescom GDQ.

The Gamescom studio will broadcast directly from the show floor throughout the event.
The wider city festival will also return to Cologne on August 29 and 30, extending the event beyond the convention center with live music and other cultural programming.
Developer conference expands with new tracks
Gamescom dev will take place on August 24 and 25 and will include more than 380 speakers across 230 sessions and 18 stages.
This year's conference will add dedicated tracks focused on animation, level design, AI in gameplay, and AI in production.
The speaker lineup includes industry figures from both development and business roles, covering topics that range from creative design to commercial growth.
The Gamescom congress will follow on August 27 and will bring together representatives from gaming, business, politics, science, education, and media.
Its focus is broader than game development alone, with discussions centered on the role games play in society and the wider economy.
German president will open the congress
Gamescom 2026 will also mark a political first.
German Federal President Frank Walter Steinmeier is set to open the Gamescom congress on August 27, making him the first sitting German head of state to do so.
That appearance adds another notable milestone to an event already setting records in exhibitor participation and floor space.
The same day will also see the return of the Gamescom invest circle, which connects selected game and technology startups with publishers, investors, and other international partners.
With exhibition space fully booked, visitor demand already strong, and the indie section reaching a new high, Gamescom 2026 is entering its opening week with more activity than any previous edition.
The combination of business events, developer sessions, public showcases, international participation, and online broadcasts makes this year's show one of the most ambitious Gamescom events yet.
