Battlefield 6 has received Update 1.4.2.0, bringing one of the largest Season 4 content drops so far with a Top Gun crossover, the return of Wake Island, new aircraft, an expanded Tsuru Reef, and a limited free trial.
The update went live on August 18, 2026, while the free trial runs through August 25 across all supported platforms.
The crossover is the main attraction, but the update also includes changes to vehicle handling, underwater movement, weapons, Portal, and several quality of life systems.
Top Gun event adds familiar characters and rewards
The Top Gun collaboration introduces three characters from the 2022 movie, with their original performers returning for the roles.
They include Lt. Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw, Lt. Robert "Bob" Floyd, and Adm. Solomon "Warlock" Bates.
The event also adds CJTF Helix, a new squad inspired by the film, along with themed cosmetics and character skins.
Players can unlock event rewards by completing challenges and earning Ace Medals, a temporary currency available during the crossover.

The free trial gives newcomers access to six modes across four maps, including Wake Island, Tsuru Reef, Cairo Bazaar, and Hagental Base.
Two new fighter jets headline the aerial combat
Update 1.4.2.0 adds two new two seat aircraft.
The F/A 81F Super Spectre is designed around air superiority and precision attacks, with the pilot and copilot able to coordinate during combat.
The F 74A Seacat uses variable sweep wings, giving it a different balance of speed and maneuverability.

Both aircraft play a major role in Top Gun: Carrier Strike, a reworked version of Carrier Assault.
The mode combines infantry, naval, and aerial combat, with teams trying to defend their own carrier while destroying the enemy carrier.
REDSEC also receives Gauntlet: Fighter Sweep, a jets only mode built around dogfighting and avoiding anti aircraft fire.
Wake Island returns with combined arms combat
Wake Island returns as one of the major map additions.
The classic Battlefield location once again emphasizes large scale battles involving infantry, vehicles, aircraft, and coastal positions.
Players can expect combat around reinforced areas, offshore carrier locations, and demolition targets.
Tsuru Reef has also been expanded.
Aircraft carriers are now part of the map in Conquest and Escalation, although the full carrier gameplay is reserved for the new Carrier Strike mode.
REDSEC Battle Royale also gains a new location called the USS Grant, a crashed aircraft carrier near Fort Lyndon.
The area offers higher value loot than standard locations and will temporarily be marked as a High Value Zone.
New sniper rifle targets extreme range combat
Ground combat receives the Interdictor, described as the longest range sniper rifle currently available in Battlefield 6.
The weapon is designed for very long distance engagements and is powerful enough to target pilots inside aircraft cockpits.
It can be unlocked through the Battle Pass.
Jet handling and underwater gameplay get major changes
Aircraft controls have been updated significantly.
Landing gear physics have been improved, while a new Airplane Control Assist option can automatically manage pitch, roll, and yaw while guiding the aircraft toward the center of the camera view.
That should make flying easier for players who struggle with manual aircraft controls.
Underwater gameplay has also received improvements, including new swimming animations, fixes for drowning and revival interactions, and smoother transitions between water and the surface.
Weapon adjustments cover the EF88, VSSM, optics, and Match Grade Ammo.
A new ADS Dispersion Crosshair option can now show weapon spread while aiming, helping players understand how accuracy changes during sustained firing.
Portal also gains Custom Lobbies for Battle Royale Quads and Conquest, along with SDK support for Wake Island and Tsuru Reef.
Battlefield 6 Update 1.4.2.0 combines new content with broader mechanical improvements, making Season 4 more focused on large scale vehicle combat.
With Wake Island returning, Carrier Strike combining land, sea, and air battles, and the free trial opening the game to new players for a week, the update gives Battlefield 6 one of its most substantial refreshes since launch.
